IV.PROCEDURE
Preparation Teacher Activities Learner’s Activities
1. Greetings
Good morning/afternoon class!
Good morning Ms.Gia!
How are you today?
We’re good Ms. Gia.
That’s nice to hear.

Are you all ready for

your new lesson this
week?
Yes Ms.Gia
Very Good!
2. Arrangement
Before you take your
seat please pick up the (Students cleaning
pieces of paper or their
trashes under your place, arranging their
chairs and arrange your chairs, and keeping
Chairs and tables properly. their
Keep your things and put that things inside their
inside bags.)
your bag.

Are you all ready now?

Yes Ms. Gia
Okay, you may now
take your seat.
Thank you Ms. Gia

3. Attendance
Who are absent today?
(Students will tell who
are absent.)
Okay, thank you.

4.Discussion of
Rules
Before we start I have
here 5 classroom rules
that you need to follow.
1. Listen attentively.
2. Respect others.
3. Participate actively.
4. Follow instructions.
5. Show responsibility.

Do you understand?
Yes Ms. Gia
V.LESSON
PROPER

A.ACTIVITY
Are you all ready now for our
new lesson for this week?
Yes Ms.
Very good, but before that let’s
have a short review about our
discussion last week. Who can
recall ? Raise your hand if you
want to answer. Yes?
Student: Last week we
discussed about
Weather Disturbance
Correct, thank you.Now what
are the two major types of
storms?
Tropical Cyclone and
Tornado
What is a tropical cyclone?
Yes?
Student: It is a low-
pressure area that
forms in the tropics
over the seas and
oceans.
Exactly, thank you.How about
Tornado, what is it? Yes,
please stand up. Student: It is the most
violent storm that
occurs on Earth.
Correct, thank you. We are
done discussing about Weather
Disturbance and now we will
tackle about the Ëffects of
Weather Disturbances,
But before we proceed with our
new topic for this week, I want
you to get 1/4 sheet of paper
and answer , “What I Know” in
your module, write the letters
only no need to copy and
answer. I will give you 5
minutes to answer. You may
start now. (Students will answer
the Pre-test silently.)

Okay, time is up , let’s do the

checking. Exchange clockwise
1, 2, 3.
(After the checking will be the
recording of scores.)

B.ANALYSIS
Look at the picture below, what
have you observe?.

(the students will

share their
observations)

This was during the typhoon

Yolanda. Do you still remember
when a typhoon hit us during
pandemic? The Typhoon
Odette?
Yes Ms. Gia
Then what are your
experiences during that time
when the typhoon hit Cebu?
What have you observed?Yes?

Student: The wind is

so strong Ms.Gia.
Yes the wind is very strong,
what happened to the trees
and houses? The trees fell to the
ground and so many
houses got damaged.

Exactly, not only houses got

damaged also the building due
to strong wind the glass
windows are broken and the
signages of some
establishment flew and fell to
the ground. A typhoon can
bring so much damage to a
place due to strong wind and
heavy rain fall that will cause
flood and landslides.

So our lesson for this week is

all about “The Effects of
Weather Disturbances”

Who can tell me what is

Weather Disturbance? We
discussed this last week.Yes?
Student: Weather
Disturbance is any
unusual or severe
weather condition that
disrupts normal
weather patterns.
Exactly, which includes? What
are these different
phenomenon?
Typhoons, hurricanes,
tornadoes,
thunderstorms, and
heavy rainfall.
Correct, very good. Philippines
is always visited by typhoons.
Like the example I’ve said
earlier the Typhoon Odette that
hit Cebu last December 2021.It
damages the houses, the crops
of our farmers, some
properties, establishments, and
also loss of lives are just some
of its effects to the community.
Awareness and preparedness
in case of calamities can help
and save lives. How can you
do that by? By preparing and
storing essential
needs like food, flash
lights, medicine, and
water in one bag.

That’s correct, what else?

By keeping updated
about the weather.
Through what?
Watching tv or
listening to the radio.
Exactly, and also you can
check the news about the
weather in the newspaper.
All of your answers are correct.
Are you familiar with the storm
warning signals?
Yes Ms. Gia
These Public Storm Warning
Signals are raised to warn the
public of incoming weather
disturbances. And also
NDRRMC will send you
warning signals about the
different rainfalls that our place
will be experiencing. Have you
received a text from
NDRRMC? Yes Ms. every time
there is a typhoon or
storm.
Yes , because that is one way
of informing us about how
strong the rain and wind we
will experience and for us to
be alert and be prepared at all
times.

That is why when there is a

storm signal number 1 here in
Cebu all Elementary schools
will postponed the classes.
Okay please read this
altogether: Students:
Once a storm signal is
raised, conditions are
not yet necessarily felt
in the given area.

It means, a storm signal is

given ahead of time.
As the weather disturbance
moves through the PAR what
does PAR means? Please
read. Philippine Area of
Responsibility

This is the Philippine are of

Responsibility:

Okay, so again as the weather

disturbance moves through the
Philippine Area of
Responsibility , Public Storm
Signals maybe upgraded or
downgraded.

An area’s given number is

based on the intensity , size of
circulation, forecast direction,
and speed of the tropical storm
when the Public storm Warning
Signal is raised.
Changes in :
-Intensity
-Size of circulation
-Movement of the tropical
cyclone
Determines the change of the
Public Storm Warning Signal in
a given area.

The weather disturbance is

expected in 36 hours once
Public Storm Warning Signal
No. 1 is raised.

These are the Meteorological

Conditions for Signal number 1,
please read altogether.
Meteorological
Conditions:
- A tropical will
threaten/affect an
area.
-Winds of 30-60 kph is
expected.
-Intermittent rains may
be expected in at least
36 hours.
Okay thank you, for the
Impacts of the Winds :

-Twigs and branches of small

trees may be broken.
-Some banana plants may be
tilted or uprooted.
-Some houses of very light
materials may be partially
unroofed.
-Only very light or no damage
may be sustained by areas
affected.
-Rice crops in flowering stage
may suffer significant damage.

No questions or clarifications?
Before we proceed to Signal
Number 2?
None so far Ms.Gia
Okay, next the weather
disturbance is expected in 24
hours once Public Storm
Warning Signal No. 2 is raised.

For the Meteorological

Conditions:

-A tropical Cyclone will affect

an area.
-Winds of greater than 60kph
and up to 100 kph may be
expected in at least 24 hours.

The Impacts of the Wind for

Signal No. 2: Please read
Column 4.
Column 4:
-Some coconut trees
may tilt; some of them
may break.
-Few big trees may be
uprooted.
-Many banana plants
may be downed.
-Rice and corn crops
may be affected.
-A large number of
houses made of light
materials may be
unroofed.
-Old galvanized iron
roofing may be peeled
off.
-In general, the winds
may bring light to
moderate damage to
exposed communities.

Okay , thank you. So here is

what signal no. 2 looks like.

Look at the picture, what have

you observed?
(The students will
share their
observations.)
Very good, now let us now
proceed to Signal No.3.
The weather disturbance for
the PSWS No. 3 to be raised is
expected in 18 hours.

For the Meteorological

Conditions:

- A tropical cyclone will affect

an area. The same with the
Signal No. 1 and 2. then,
- Winds of greater than 100
kph up to 185 kph may be
expected in at least 18 hours.

The Impact of the Winds:

-Many coconut trees may be

broken or destroyes.
-Almost all banana plants may
be downed and a large number
of trees may be uprooted.
-Rice and corn crops may
suffer heavy losses.

Column 1:
-Majority of light
material houses
maybe unroofed or
destroyed. There may
be considerable
damage to structures
of light to medium
construction.
-There may be
widespread disruption
of electrical power and
communication
services.
-In general , moderate
to heavy damage may
be experienced,
particularly in the
agricultural and
industrial sectors.

This picture shows what Signal

No.3 looks like:

Lastly is the PSWS No, 4 ,

Signal No. 4 is raised when the
weather disturbance is
expected in 12 hours.

During this time, a very intense

typhoon will affect the area.
Very strong winds of more than
185kph may be expected in at
least 12 hrs.

Due to very stong winds,

coconut plantations may suffer
extensive damage, large trees
may be uprooted, severe
losses of rice and corn
plantation, buildings damaged,
and electrical power may be
severely disrupted.
Now we are not yet done, there
is what we called Super
Typhoon. Do you have any
idea about super typhoon? Student: A very strong
Typhoon Ms.Gia.

You have a point, thank you.

So when it is declared “Super
Typhoon” it is expected to have
a very strong winds of more
than 220 kph may be expected
in at least 12 hours.

Due to very strong wind, during

Super Typhoon almost total
damage to structures of light
materials, especially in high
exposed coastal area, roof
failure and buildings damage,
electrical power distribution is
severely damaged, sign boards
blown out, plantations blown
out, tall trees are broken and
uprooted, coconut trees are
stooped and uprooted, only few
plants and trees survived.

Look at this picture, this was

after a place was hit by a super
typhoon.

(The students will

share their
observation in the
picture.)

Look at the damage it brings to

the community, a total
destruction.

Now let us proceed to PAG-

ASA’s Rainfall and Flood
Warning System. But first let us
know what is PAG-ASA.

Please read column 3. Column 3:

Philippine
Atmospheric,
Geophysical and
Astronomical Services
Administration
(PAGASA)
-is the Philippine
national institution
dedicated to provide
flood and typhoon
warnings, public
weather forecasts and
advisories,
meteorological,
astronomical,
climatological, and
other specialized
information and
services primarily for
the protection of life
and property and in
support of economic,
productivity and
sustainable
development.

Thank you column 3. PAG-ASA

is just an abbreviation, you
should know its meaning. This
agency plays a crucial role in
monitoring and forecasting
weather-related hazards such
as typhoons, floods, and
landslides, helping
communities prepare and
respond to these events.

So this is the Rainfall and

Flood Warning System

Yellow Rainfall Advisory

Orange Rainfall Advisory
Red Rainfall Advisory

You should be aware of these

things that we are discussing
today so that you’ll be able to
know what to do during any
calamities especially of there is
a typhoon or storm.

Do you understand.
Yes Ms. Gia
Now is it important to be aware
also of the precautionary
mmeasures before, during, and
after a typhoon? And Why?
Student: Yes Ms. for
our safety and also for
us to be prepared at
all times.
Correct, thank you. Let us
watch this video for you to
know what to do before, during,
and after a typhoon. Please
watch and listen carefully.

(The students will

watch and listen to the
video silently.)

So what have you learned from

the video that you watched?
(The students will
share what they have
learned from the
video .)
Is there any question or
clarification before we
proceed?
None so far Ms Gia.

Now what do you call that

scary sound that we can hear
from the sky when there’s a
heavy rain coming or about to
rain?
Student:
Thunderstorm Ms.Gia.
Correct, thank you.
Thunderstorm can cause lot of
damage, the heavy rain it
carries sometimes can cause
flooding and lightning can strike
objects and set them on fire.

Strong winds generated by

thunderstorms can also cause
thunderstorms.

Now, there are also safety

measures that we need to
follow whenever there is a
Thunderstorm and Lightning.
Watch and listen to this video.

(The students will

watch and listen to the
video silently.)

Now what have you learned?

What are the important things
that you should do whenever
there is a Thunderstorm or
Lightning? (The students will
share their ideas .)

Thank you for sharing your

answers,very good.
Let us proceed to the effects of
tornadoes. Do you know what
is a tornado? A rotating wind that
can destroy anything
when it passes by.

Exactly, thank you. Have you

seen an actual tornado?
No/Yes Ms.
As what your classmate
mentioned it destroy anything
when it passes by because of
how it moves and imagine it’s a
very strong wind the moves on
the land.

When tornadoes touch the

ground, their destructive winds
rip apart and trees. 500 m wide
but the wind velocity can travel
up to 800 km/hr. The average
duration is only about 8
minutes.

So what are the safety

measures that we should do
when there is a tornado?

Please reach column 2:

Column 2:
Tornadoes Safety
Measure
1. Go to basement of
your house or building.
2. Move away from the
windows.
3. Lie on the ground if
you are outside.
4. If inside a car, get
out immediately and
find shelter.
Thank you column 2. Is there
any questions or clarifications,
before we proceed to the
activity?
None so far Ms.

C.ABSTRACTION
If you don’t have questions , I
will be the one to ask you.

Okay, What is our topic all

about today?
Effects of Weather
Disturbances
Very good, now what is
Weather Disturbance?Yes.
Student:Weather
Disturbance is any
unusual or severe
weather condition that
disrupts normal
weather patterns.
Correct, now how many Public
Storm Warning Signals do we
have?
Four
What do you call the strongest
typhoon? Super Typhoon
Very good, how about PAG-
ASA, who can tell me the
meaning of PAG-ASA?
Student:Philippine
Atmospheric,
Geophysical and
Astronomical Services
Administration
Exactly, very good thank you.
What rainfall advisory is raised
when downpours constitute an
emergency?
Red rainfall advisory
Correct, now last question
before we proceed to the
activity, what are the different
weather disturbances?
Student:
Storm
Typhoon
Thunderstorm
And Tornadoes
Very good, now let’s proceed to
your group activity.
D.APPLICATION
Please get your 1/8 illustration
board, chalk, and your rug.You
will use the back portion of the
illustration board.
So what is our activity for
today?
Today we will have an oral
group activity, I’ll be asking
questions and you will write
your answers on your
illustration board. When I say
raise your answers, you should
raise your illustration board,
then the group who can answer
correctly will be given 1 point.

Is my instruction clear?
Yes Ms. Gia
Are you all ready now?
Yes we are!
Okay Group 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,and 6
please raise your chalks. You
can only start writing after I
