Lesson Plan in Teaching Science 7

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. give a reason why do seasons change;
b. interpret data about sunrise and sunset to tell when daytime is long and
when daytime is short; and
c. infer the effect of the length of daytime and night time on seasons; and
d. summarize the reasons why seasons change based on activity 1 and 2.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Why do seasons change?
How does length of daytime and night time affect the season?
Materials: Visual Aid, Laptop, Chalk and Board
References: Science Grade 7 Learner’s Material and Teacher’s Guide pp.128-132

Review

Last meeting, we discussed about seasons right?

Yes Ma’am!
What is a season?
Season is a period of the year that is distinguished by
special climate conditions.
Very good!

b.PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

Now, we will have a group activity.

In this activity, you were able to know why do season
change and how does the length of daytime and night
time affect the season.

Are you all ready?

Yes Ma’am
Lesson Plan in Teaching Science 7

i. Pre-activity

Each group will be given an activity sheet.

Group 1 and 2 will do the activity 1
( Learner’s Materials and Teacher’s Guide pp.128-130)

Group 3 and 4 will do the Activity 2

( Learner’s Materials and Teacher’s Guide pp.132-133)

I will give you 20 minutes to do this activity.

And please observe silence while doing this activity.

You may now start!

(The students will do the activity.)
ii. Activity Proper

Time’s up!

Please arrange your chairs and go back to your proper

seat.
I need two representatives to present your outputs.

(Each group will present their student.)

Good job Class!

iii. Post activity

As you can see the axis of the earth is tilted from the
vertical by 23.5o.
What do you think is the effect of this tilt?
The effect of the tilt of the earth’s axis is the season
will eventually change.
Very good!

Look at the figure 1.

In June, the north pole is tilted toward the sun.
Naturally, the northern hemisphere will then receive
direct rays from the sun.

What do you think will happen when the sun’s rays hit
the ground directly? The place will become warmer than the rays are
oblique.
Right!
This is why the summer in the Northern Hemisphere at

this time.
But the Earth is not stationary, the Earth goes around
the sun.
What happens when the Earth has moved to the other
side of the sun? The North pole will move away from the sun.

After six months, in December the north pole will be

moving or pointing away from the sun.
The Northern hemisphere will no longer receive direct
rays from the sun.

What will happen if it is away from the direct rays of

Sun? The Northern hemisphere will then experience a
time of cold.
Awesome!

For the temperate countries in the Northern

Hemisphere, it will be winter.
In tropical countries it is simply the cold season.
Is that clear?
Yes Ma’am!
Which part of the earth receives the direct rays of the
Sun in December? The south pole is tilted toward the Sun.

Right!
This time the sun’s direct rays will fall on Northern
hemisphere and cold in Southern Hemisphere all over
again.

Thus, the seasons change because the direct rays of the

sun shift from one hemisphere to the other as the earth
goes around the sun.

Did you now know why seasons changed?

Yes ma’am!
There is another reason why seasons change.
How many hours are there in a day?
24 hours ma’am.
Do daytime and night time are equal?
Yes ma’am!
Are you sure?
Remember class that the length of daytime changes
from month to month.
When the North Pole is tilted toward the sun the
daytime will be longer than night time in Northern
Hemisphere.
Lesson Plan in Teaching Science 7
What happens when daytime is longer than night time?
The time of heating up during the day is longer than
the time of cooling down at night.
Very good!

The Northern hemisphere steadily warms up and result

is summer.
At the same time, in the southern hemisphere the
opposite is happening. It means that night is longer than
daytime the season there is winter. Is that clear?
Yes ma’am!
And vice versa with the North Pole that is tilted away
from the Sun.

Do you have any question?

None ma’am!
IV.GENERALIZATION

Why do seasons change?

Seasons change because of the tilt of the Sun, its
revolution around the sun, direct rays of the Sun and
the length of daytime and night time.
Very well said!

What are the seasons that we can experience in the Rainy and dry season.
Philippines?

Bravo!
