belongs to people.
Two Types Of Possessive Pronoun
1. Dependent Possessive Pronoun
2. Independent Possessive Pronoun
Possessive pronouns (Singular)
My/mine
Your/yours Possessive pronouns (Plural)
Her/hers  Their/theirs
Him/his  Our/ours
Possessive pronouns are never spelled with
apostrophes.
Possessive pronouns simplify constructions that show
possession of a noun.

outfits.
It sounds odd to use Jane’s name twice in this sentence.

A possessive pronoun solves the problem:

Jane takes pride in her outfits.

Dependent Possessive Pronouns
Dependent possessive pronouns are used before
a noun.
Singular - her, his, your, my
Plural - our, their
 My plane is delayed.
 Is this man your husband?
 Our house is just near the market.
Independent Possessive Pronouns
Independent possessive pronouns (also called absolute possessive
pronouns) must be used without a noun.

Singular - hers, him, yours, mine

Plural - ours, theirs
 My phone is dead. Pass me yours .
 Did you know that Labrador is mine ?
 The house on the corner is theirs .
As you can see, it is common to see independent possessive pronouns
at the ends of clauses or phrases.
