Process Paper

How did we choose our topic?

We found our topic because we both had something in common: we love animals
and nature. We were brainstorming ideas on what we couldve done, and we finally came
up with National Parks. We quickly researched many different National Parks, and we
decided on Yellowstone. We decided on Yellowstone because it was the very first National
Park and it was a large milestone for America. It also holds many famous things, such as
the Old Faithful Geyser.

How did we conduct our research?

Our research mostly consisted of reading books and going online to find various
websites. We also got an interview in with a person that works over at Yellowstone
National Park! We found a plethora of our research on pages such as the National Archives.
We looked at many books, and one of our friends parents gave us a book about
Yellowstone and the other national parks. One of the websites we also used many times
was the Official Yellowstone National Park website ( https://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm ).
This website was one of the most helpful ones, along with the National Archives (
https://ww.archives.gov/ ) because they gave us a great amount of information and Primary
sources, including pictures.

How did we choose to make a website and how did we construct it?
We chose to make a website because we thought it would be the most sufficient way
to get our information to others. We thought that we could show everything through
pictures and videos, and also words. The only way we thought we could do that was the
website. We nearly chose a Documentary, but we decided not to because we didnt have a
video camera and we couldnt edit videos that well. It took us a couple months to construct
our website, and to actually get it how we wanted it to look. It took us about a month to
figure out how to use Weebly correctly and figure out how to get the idea in our head onto
the bright computer screen in which awaited us.

How does our topic relate to this years theme?

Our topic relates to this years theme of Taking a Stand in History because
Ulysses S. Grant took a stand to create the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act of
1872. He signed it into law and he protected many of the endangered animals there
(mainly Bison) and an abundance of the land was also protected. There were also many
others who took a stand to get the act signed, so not only did Ulysses S. Grant take a stand
for it, but so did many others. The act took about six months or less, but no one knows
where it was signed. Everyones best guess is Congress. So, this topic relates to this years
theme because these many people took a stand in history to make the Yellowstone
National Park, and the result was, hopefully, exactly what they wanted.
