We the undersigned Chiefs of the Indian First Nations at a
two day meeting on-January 21, 22, 1987 at the Shuswap
Nation, Kamloops, B.C. have declared our opposition to the
up-coming Constitutional Conference. .
Ag indian First Nations we will not discuss our apofiginal
title and treaty rights with the provinces nor with
representatives from the territorial governments or other
organizations. No organization and or provincial
government will represent or in any manner speak on our
behalf at the Conference,
We reaffirm our rights to our nationhood, our aboriginal
title and treaty rights and the trust obligations of the
Crown in Right of Canada and)have committed ourselves to
work together for the protection and advancement of those
rights.
To those First Nations who are opposed to the
Constitutional Conference, and who are committed to the
recognition, protection and advancement of our aboriginal
title and treaty rights, we the undersigned Chiefs invite
them to join us in this impcctant and urgent cause.
