Subject: Lacking Minority Scholarship

Dear President Frank,

My name is Jessica Roseman. I am a first year student attending the University of New Mexico
through the aid of the UNM Scholars scholarship. With this scholarship, I plan to obtain a
Bachelors degree in Business within the next four years. However, one important fact about
myself is that I am a natural redhead. Redheads make up about one to two percent of the entire
population of the United States making myself and other redheads a significant minority.
The reason I am contacting you today is because it has come to my attention that, despite the
diversity at the university, there is an astonishing lack of financial aid for redheads.
Prior to attending the university, I researched scholarships to help pay for my tuition. I was
surprised to find that scholarships for redheads were nearly nonexistent. The University of New
Mexico is known for its diverse environment and support for minority students. However, after
exploring all of the available options for resident scholarships, I failed to find one that covered
all of my expenses or meet my needs as a minority student.
The lack of redhead financial aid at a university with such a unique atmosphere and love of
culture is alarming. Redheads have faced discrimination throughout history and due to the size of
the redhead population, have been extremely underrepresented. If the University of New Mexico
cannot recognize that redheads are an important minority in the world, who will? I petition for a
scholarship to be made specifically for natural redheads that covers my expenses at the
university. The scholarship for National Hispanic and American Indian Scholars well covers the
fees as a student. I cannot expect to be treated any less.
I appreciate your time and look forward to your response. You may contact me through this email
or my mailing address:
