VISION
To have these contests annually improving the content and format, showcase students high
proficiency in the target language, increase the participant numbers, replicating them to more HPS
campuses and sister schools, other public schools and universities as well.
MISSION
As we know, primary objective of a foreign language learning is communication. The best way to
learn a foreign language is to speak it. Students need more input for more speaking practice. So, our
mission is

like a native speaker.

to help teachers to use the communicative approaches in and out of their Turkish classrooms.
PARTICIPANTS
6th-12th grade students who are in their first or second year in learning Turkish can
participate in A1 level Turkish speech contest. In other words, Acilim Turkish 1, 2 or Lale Turkish
1 textbook learners should participate in this category.
(Acilim 3 or 4 learners will compete in the Level 2 competition.)
Contest materials are not exactly from Acilim 1 and Acilim 2. In other words, it is not
bounded by Acilim 1 and Aclim 2 curriculums or textbooks. It is more challanging than A1
level, and aims to encourage good students to improve their language level in a short time.
NUMBER of PARTICIPANTS
Turkish Speaking Contest coordinator will invite 10-15 students from the clusters to the
final. Clusters will be sent an online speaking assignment including the questions from the
speech contest prepeparation bank. Student perfprmance at this assignment will also be
effective to define the finalists. (Clusters should have a cluster wide pre-elimination speech
contest. They can have additional rules for their cluster wide competition. They, by themselves,
will decide the number of participants for the cluster wide competition).

TEST FORMAT
This contest will include 4 different turnaments:
1. Interview (Questions and Answers)
2. Fast Memory (Vocabulary contest)
3. Monolog1
4. Picture Story Telling
5. Monolog 2
Interview (Questions and Answers): In this part, students are asked 9 questions (3 difficult, 3
medium, and 3 easy questions). Questions will be selected from the question bank given below.
Fast Memory: Students vocabulary knowledge is tested in this part. Students are shown
different realias or flash cards one by one in 1 minute. They call out the name of each object
without pausing. They earn 1 point for their each correct answer. A vocabulary bank is given
below for this part.
Monolog: Students must study previously given topics (About Me and About Turkey) in the
study bank. They will retell the topic by heart in a given time (should not spend more than 3
minutes for each topic). There is a sample About Me topic in this bank. Student should write a
similar topic with his/her sponsor teaher and present it by heart in front of the audiance.

Picture Story: Students are given 6 pictures in this document. They are going to study the
vocabulary and the language about the pictures, make a picture story and present it. They will
draw one of those 6 pictures at the contest and present their picture story in front of the
audiance.

a text below. Teacher and student should rewrite a new text about the student (as the
same length) and student should present it by heart.
2. About Turkey: Student will learn the text about Turkey (given in the study bank) and
present it to the audiance.

The speech must include full name, birth date, age, where from, where to live, what to be
in the future, a little about family and school, basic physical appearance, some character
description, and about some hobbies.
Here is a sample essay below. Student should write his/her own essay getting an idea from
this one. Students essay should not be shorter than this one.

oturuyoruz. 2 sene nce stanbula tandk. Ben ilkokulu Konyada okudum. imdi, Atatrk
lkretim Okulunda okuyorum. Okulumu, retmenlerimi ve arkadalarm ok seviyorum.
Okulumuz kk fakat iyi bir okul. renciler ok baarl. Ben okulda matematik, Trke, fen
bilgisi, sosyal bilgiler, beden eitimi ve ngilizce derslerini reniyorum. En sevdiim ders Trke.
Beden eitimi dersini pek sevmiyorum, nk komay sevmiyorum. Fakat yzmeyi ok
seviyorum. zellikle scak gnlerde, arkadalarmla birlikte sitemizdeki havuza yzmeye
gidiyoruz.
