Student Project

Design and fabrication of a small-scale tower crane model capable of lifting and transporting
a 2 kg mass from Point A to Point B (See Illustration Below).

Deliverables
o Working model of a tower crane.
o Project Report (10 pages max.) consisting of title page, project background, necessary
theory (applied concepts of mechanics, material selection and project constraints) and
calculations with graphical representation, if any. Also include project cash flow and
include any receipts at the back of the report. Your report must also contain a definite
reason as to the selection of a certain material. Engineering Drawings may also be
attached and would be graded with grace marks.
Project Grading Criteria
The project would be graded on technical know-how, presentation of working model,
presentation of project report and viva conducted on the day of submission of the project.
Project Constraints

This project needs to be conducted in groups.

The maximum budget of this project is Rs. 15000/- per group.
All members of the group need to participate equally in the project work and any one from the
group may be asked to present it.
Design of crane, automation, and material selection are open to your creativity.
