When you get, give. When you learn, teach. Maya Angelou
As a young adult my dream was to be a mother and have a family. Although my children have
grown beyond their early childhood years, I continue to look back on this period of growth and
development with pride. My passion for teaching is a result of my experiences as a parent.
Through the years I have been blessed to have known many exceptional teachers. Each had one
defining feature; a genuine love for the children they teach. I have observed excellent examples
of how to speak a childs language, and to support their growth. Children flourish under such
exceptional care and guidance. The best teachers demonstrate a true love for learning, and teach
by example with love, care, and understanding of each child they care for. Every child matters.
As a child my first experience with school started on my first day of kindergarten, I will never
forget the heartache of leaving my Mom for a full school day. My teacher, Mrs. Bovay spent
many mornings with me cradled in her lap assuring me that it would be okay. It was, because
she cared.
In my classroom, I emulate Mrs. Bovay. I care for and respect each child. With care,
guidance, and nurturance I observe their growth as we learn together in a positive learning
environment. I believe parents and families are an important factor in a childs development.
We will work together to meet the needs of the child. I establish a circle of trust between home
and school. As a mother my wish for my children was that they have a close bond with their
teacher, so they feel comfortable away from home. I am committed to providing an environment
that promotes learning in a safe and trusting classroom. My classroom will promote enjoyment
through learning. It is an honor to be a part of this journey and to provide a foundation for
childrens lifetime of learning.
