Motivation What will you do to attract or motivate the children?

I will invite the children to the carpet for story time. I will introduce and read Skip through the
Seasons by Stella Blackstone.
Directions/ Explanations/Steps

1. I will invite the children to story time on the carpet.

2. I will hold up and put on my hat and mittens and ask the children why do I need these? I
will ask what time of year should I wear these? Fall and Winter-rain and snow
3. I will hold up my umbrella. I will ask the children what is this item? I will ask them when I
would need to use this? Spring and Fall-rain and wind
4. I will place my sunglasses on and hold up my sunscreen. I will ask the children what are
these? I will ask when will I use these items? Summer-sun
5. I will then introduce and read Skip through the Seasons by Stella Blackstone.
6. I will show the children the 5 weather bottles that they will complete in the discovery
bottle activity.
7. We will observe each bottle and discuss what weather pattern it resembles. I will point
out the season that each can be found in.
8. I will divide the children into 4 groups 4 by asking: What is your favorite season?
9. I will instruct the group that likes Spring to one table, the group that likes Winter to one
table, the group that likes Fall to one table, and the group that likes Summer to the last
table.
10.I will instruct the children to each select a plastic bottle from their table.
11.I will instruct the children to take the water pitcher from the table and fill their bottle up
to the water line on the bottle. They will then pass the pitcher to their neighbor.
12.I will come around to help seal the bottles with glue.
13.I will instruct the children to shake their bottles.
Conclusion: What will you do to conclude your lesson?
We will identify the weather pattern from each of the 4 bottles in each group and discuss the
seasons each can be found in. I will then ask the children with the sunny bottles to place their
weather bottle in their cubby and line up on the feet for lunch. I will go through each weather
pattern bottle (windy, cloudy, snowy, and rainy) until each child has lined up.
