Cold play viva la Vida

digipak analysis

The genre, baroque pop , is an

unconventional genre which allows the
artists a variety of ways such as artistic
or angry to present them selves.
The mise-en-scene of setting is used to
suggest loneliness and maybe regret
felt by the artists narrative. This is
because homage to the French
revolution where the monarchy was
forced of the throne; this would
suggest regret and powerlessness felt
by the artist as this suggest that his
reign as a king is over. This is also
emphasized by the lyrics in the music
video, that was when I ruled the
world. The typography is coloured in
white and is designed to make it
similar to the image behind it. This
symbolises surrender(white flag) this
could also symbolise purity to suggest
the artist starting all over again on a
clean slate as
shown by the yellow font in the plain
grey
background which symbolises the hope
of a new
beginning. The use of a dark grey
colour scheme symbolises detachment.

digipak shows the artists
playing musical instruments.

promotional images for the
artist which is important to
sell the image of the band
and representation of being
talented to the audience as
suggested by Richard Dyer
and Andrew Goodwin (may
be per the request of the
record label). The image
also tells the audience more
about the song an the
artists. For example the
filter on the image gives it a
look from the 20th century
which could be an homage
to music from that century
but also emphasizes the
feeling of old memories felt
by the artists. This is further
shown through the use of
low key lighting in the
second image which
suggests regret or again
powerlessness felt by the
