Activity Summary: The purpose of this activity is for students to be able to identify government
symbols. In this activity the student will match the government symbol to the correct given word.
Learning Objective: The student will match the state and national symbols to the correct word
with 100% accuracy.
Grade Level Expectation: K.16 Government and Civics
Curriculum Standard: Identify the following state and national symbols: The American Flag and
its colors and shapes, The Tennessee flag and its colors and shapes, The Words of the Pledge of
Allegiance, The Tennessee state flower (Iris) and bird (mockingbird), the national symbols of the
bald eagle, Statue of Liberty, and the White House.
