how to solve multiplication problems.

multiplication problems

Lesson Sequence/Procedures
1. the students will discuss in their groups all the different ways they can
show multiplication
2. each table will share what they found, and I will write all of the
different ways on the board
3. I will then give each table a different multiplication problem
4. For the first 5 minutes the students will work silently and do the
multiplication problem in as many ways as they can
5. After the first five minutes they will share their work with their tables
6. I will have each person at each table pick a card
7. Depending on what card they pick I will assign certain number cards
for different types of multiplication strategies
8. The person with that card must show that multiplication strategy on
the big piece of paper
9. If they do not know how to do it that way their tablemates can help
them learn how.
10.
After they finish, each group will come up and present their big
pieces of paper with all of the different multiplication strategies on
them
Review/Assessment
I will assess the groups by walking around and listening to them come up
with the different types of ways to solve multiplication. Then I will assess
them by the way they present the different ways to solve multiplication.
Accommodations
For students that cannot follow the procedures of how to correctly use a
white board, they will be using paper and pencil.
