EARTHQUAKE PROJECT

CONSTRUCTION GUIDELINES

Limitations:
Size: The maximum on one dimension: 8 inches
Maximum for two other dimensions: 2 inches, 4 inches
TOTAL MAXIMUM CUBIC DIMENSIONS: 64 cubic inches

Materials:
No prefabricated toy building materials like Legos –
No wood larger than 1/8 inch thick, including dowel sticks –
No metal larger than the size of a paperclip’s diameter –
No duct tape, no hot glue! Don’t wrap entire structure in tape
or bubble-wrap or such -

Required Elements:
1. An open entry (or movable door)
2. 2 windows
3. At least one (1) type of earthquake-resistant engineering: bracing, trussing, dampers, base
isolation/bearings

Be mindful about the types of materials you use – try to recycle rather than buy. EXTRA CREDIT
will be given for earth-friendly/biodegradable ones.

Height of structure
Foundation strength
Construction materials within scale of model
