First Week of School Ice Breakers

1. The Name Game: Begin by giving the students name tags. Have the students
sit in a circle and start going through the ABCs. With each letter, the
students whose names begin with the letter will jump up and tell the class
their names. They will also try to remember the name of the person that
went before them. (If I call out A for example, Ashley, Allison, and Aiden
might stand up. Ashley will tell the class her name, then Allison will say her
name and Ashleys name, and finally Aiden would say his name and Allisons
name.)
2. All About Me Book: I will ask the students to fill out a mini-book titled All
About Me. The front page will have a birthday cake where they can draw
candles to represent their ages. The second page will have a blank picture
frame to draw a picture of their family in and at the bottom it will say, I
have _____sisters and ______ brothers. The next page will say My Dads
name is ______and my Moms name is ______. I have a pet too, it is a
_____ and its name is ______. The last page will have a picture of a crayon
and I will ask the students to make the crayon their favorite color. The
students will then present their books to the rest of the class.

3. Ice Breaker Bingo: The students will be given a handout that has 10 boxes

on it. The students will have to go around the class and find someone who
fits the box description and write down their name in the box. Some
examples of the boxes might be, Find someone who likes cupcakes or Find
someone who has blue eyes. When all of their boxes are filled, they will sit
at the carpet where we will go over the handout, having the kids raise their
hand whenever they fit the box descriptions.
