communication.

3. Materials and Equipment needed:

● Paper
● Envelopes
● Writing utensil (crayon,marker,or pencil)

4. Teaching (What will you do?)

I will start this activity by reading the story Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type by Doreen
Cronin. I will ask open ended questions throughout the story such as: What is a farm? Why do
animals live on the farm? What do you think strike/furious/ultimatum ect. means? How does
Farmer Brown feel? How do the cows feel? Why do you think they are typing up letters? and
so forth. Upon concluding the story, we will have a discussion about a time when we wanted
something and how we can use our words to ask for things like the cows in the story.
Next, the students will observe as I write a sample letter to my mother that states something
like "Dear Mom, I would like a new bicycle for my birthday. My old bicycle is broken and I
would like to ride a bicycle in the warm weather. Sincerely, Alicia." I will then fold my letter
and place it in an envelope and seal it shut. I will explain to the students that they are going
to write their own letters asking for something that they want or feel they need just like the
cows and the ducks in the story. I will use dictation and write what they say their letters are
about on their paper.

5. Closure:
To conclude this activity, I will ask children if they would like to share their letters with their
peers. For students needing support, I will read the dictation on the paper being certain to
point to each word as I read it. I will encourage the student to "read" each line after I read it.
Once all of the students have shared their letters, I will assist them with folding the letters and
placing them inside of their envelopes.

6. List 3 additional books in this genre to extend the learning:

● Big Bad Bruce by Bill Peet
● Monster Mama by Liz Rosenberg
● Where Is Tippy Toes? by Betsy Lewin
