Technology Essay

The industrial revolution started because Great Britain came from western europe to start
expanding their country. It changed how cloth and textiles were made. The revolution affected
the people greatly and suddenly. The Industrial Revolution was a major change in the nature of
production in which machines replaced tools and steam and other energy sources replaced
human or animal power.
During the industrial revolution, technology came a big part in the world. Inventors
invented machines to help the cotton production keep up with the textile industry. Inventors were
making all sorts of different mechanics. James Hargreaves invented the spinning jenny. The
spinning jenny spun many threads of cotton faster. It made to where the operator could spin 8
threads of cotton instead of one and do more threads throughout the work day. Than Richard
Arkwright invented the water frame which speed up the spinning of cotton.
Later in the industrial revolution steam and electric powered machines started to be
invented. The first steam-powered locomotive was made for pulling heavy objects on iron rails.
George Stephenson designed the locomotive and improved the railways with iron. He did that
because the wooden rails wouldnt of been able to hold the heavy locomotive. Thomas
Davenport invented the electric streetcar. The streetcar was made to make transportation easier
and faster and it did. Thomas Davenport influenced the way we have electric trains and we still
have the streetcars in certain areas of the world.
The electric light was invented by Sir Humphry Davy. Sir Humphry was experimenting
with electricity and invented the electric battery. He than used the electric battery and connected
it to wires and connected the wires to a piece of carbon. The carbon started to glow giving off
light. Than Sir Joseph Wilson Swan used Davys idea and used carbon paper filament, but
found it burned quickly. After Davy and Swan not able to figure how to keep the light long lasting
and not burning out quickly, came Thomas Edison. Edison invented the lightbulb that we use
today. He experimented with thousands of different filaments, but went back to the carbon
filament. He discovered that the carbon filament in an oxygen-free bulb which did not burn up
for forty hours. he eventually produced a bulb that lasted 1500 hours, the incandescent bulb
revolutionized the world.
During the industrial revolution, the civil war was happening. There was a lot of
advancements from inventions to technology to science to medicine and to art. Many inventors
expressed their talents through the inventions they made like Thomas Davenport. He made
streetcars which shows he is talented through mechanics and how electricity works. The
inventors made huge impacts on peoples lives from the past to today to the future. They proved
that with many failures to perfect the invention it is still possible to do. The adventure to make
the light bulb it took three inventors to perfect the light bulb at the time and still today we are
trying to figure ways to make the light bulb energy efficient. The industrial revolution was an eye
opener for everyone.
