Dear colleagues, you may not have heard the wonderful news that the Government
has announced that New Zealand now supports the UN Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples. Since its adoption by the UN General Assembly in 2007 the
Declaration has been of particular significance for Aotearoa given the place of tangata
whenua in our culture and society, and the way the Declaration echoes and reinforces
articles 2 and 3 of the Treaty of Waitangi.
