We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to God and thanks to the blessed
memory of the former Governor of old Rivers State, His Excellency, late
Senator Chief Melford Okilo, whose educational policy concentrated on
rural communities for the establishment of Community Secondary Schools
across the length and breadth of Rivers State in 1982, which Bunu
Community was not left out.
In principle, the policy was quite commendable, in the areas of academic
pursuit but the areas of infrastructure was left in the hands of the benefiting
communities as at then.
The Bunu Community welcomed the development by accommodating the
pioneer students, staff and Principal in the then building of Primary School I,
Bunu Tai at the Roman Catholic Church premises.
This brief will not be complete, if the efforts of the leadership of the
community then under Chief Victor Mbuka, as the Paramount Ruler, with
his team, to mention but a few Chief Augustine O. Ikpe, Chief Michael
Gbosidam (late), the pioneer principal Chief Thomas Sorne Kabari and the
most respected pioneer staff, Chief Augustine Nsininee Ndinee who
ensured the school move to her permanent site three years after inception in
1985, into a five classroom block built like the 1
st
temple in Jerusalem on
about 10 hectares of land donated freely to the school, that can even
accommodate a tertiary institutions campus.
We are pleased to express our grief and misfortune for private, corporate
bodies and for public consumption in the world all over, that after three
decades of Okilos policy, successive military and civilian government in
Rivers State refused to re-visit the policy.
During the reign of one of the Military Administrator of Rivers State, Police
Commissioner Fidelis Oyakhilome whose policy was on agriculture
initiated the School-to-Land Authority with the aim of addressing
unemployment, where most young school leavers then were employed
across the State. Through this programme, food production was on the
increase in the State.
Bunu Community was the single largest community in Tai Local
Government Area endowed with landed property within the Ogoni axis of
the State that donated the largest portion of her farmland of over 300
hectares for the programme in 1985, requesting Government to pay
compensation on economic trees and crops destroyed, but the host
community was neglected in terms of provision of social amenities,
management staff position and the compensation not paid till today.
We cannot omit in this brief also, the present administration of the new
Rivers State under the leadership of the Governor, His Excellency, the
Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,
6

whose giant strides in education, health and agricultural sectors has
received a boost in the areas of infrastructure and man power development.
The RSSDA under his administration also saw the Bunu Community
farmland as a soft-landing ground for the take off/demonstration of the
Songhai Farm Rivers State by the Government, the host community is yet to
be compensated, operates without a CLO from the Community, no constant
electricity supply as enjoyed by the farm and the CSS, Bunu Tai not
receiving attention, became so worrisome on the minds of the elites and
very influential people of the Community and her leadership, who through
the school are Engineers, Lecturers, Medical Doctors, Lawyers, PhD holders,
Scientists, Administrators and Professionals etc, who are now out and
committed to match word with action.

Tai Local Government Area
Saakpenwa.
Sir,
REQUEST/APPEAL FOR RENOVATION OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS AT
COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, BUNU TAI
We are pleased to request and make this passionate appeal for your
consideration on the above subject matter.
That, as your administration is mapping out few areas of concentration on
projects and programmes that may have positive and direct bearing on the
rural populace in Tai LGA, the decayed and dilapidated buildings of
Community Secondary School, Bunu Tai should be considered for a state of
emergency, if education will be given priority attention in your plan of work.
Find attached, is a copy of our proposal/brief on the school and other
community based projects.
Permit us to also use this medium to congratulate you on your emergence as
the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, may
God grant you favour for more achievement in life.
Sir, we shall be very grateful, if you can embark on a tour of the school

Your Ref:.........................................
Our Ref:.......................................... Date:...................................

The Executive Governor of
Rivers State
Government House
Port Harcourt.

Your Excellency Sir,

REQUEST/APPEAL FOR A STATE OF EMERGENCY ON THE
DECAYED AND DILAPIDATED SCHOOL BUILDINGS AT
COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, BUNU TAI
We are pleased to request and make this passionate appeal for your
consideration on the above subject matter.
It will interest your Excellency to note that the future of a reasonable
percentage of the students in the school for now is in jeopardy, because
they lacked a firm foundation, studying under leaking roof in buildings
that the walls are broken down and falling. The slightest threat of
rainstorm or mere appearance of dark cloud, the students are asked to
vacate their classes to avoid loss of life, hence this humble appeal.

Find attached, is a copy of our brief/proposal/master plan of the school
and other community based projects.
We salute your courage and very appreciative to your Giant Strides and
performance in the new Rivers State under your administration. You have
done well.

Sir, we shall be very grateful, if you can embark on a second tour of the
school premises or send your team to assess the present condition of the
school buildings and make recommendations for your kind consideration
and approvals.

Thank you and God bless you.
