Stopped By A Brick
About ten years ago, a young and very successful executive named Josh
was traveling down a Chicago neighborhood street.
He was going pretty fast in his Jaguar, a new car. He was watching for
kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he
thought he saw something. As his car passed, no child darted out, but a
brick sailed out and -- WHUMP! -- it smashed into the side door of his
car. Josh stopped and jumped out of the car, grabbed the kid and pushed
him up against a parked car. He shouted at the kid, That brick you
threw at my Jaguar will cost you lots of money. Why did you throw it?
"Please, mister, please... I'm sorry! I didn't know what else to do!
pleaded the youngster. I threw the brick because no one else would
stop!" Tears were dripping down the boy's chin as he pointed around
the parked car. "It's my brother, Mister", he said. "He rolled off the curb
and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up." Sobbing, the boy
asked the executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his
wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."
Moved beyond words, the young executive tried desperately to swallow
the rapidly swelling lump in his throat.
Straining, he lifted the young man back into the wheelchair and
checked to see that everything was going to be OK. He then watched
the younger brother push him down the sidewalk towards their home.
He walked slowly back to his Jaguar.
Josh never did fix the side door of his Jaguar. He kept the dent to
remind him not to go through life so fast that someone has to throw a
brick at him to get his attention.

Reflections
* In this materialistic fast-paced world, so many are only
concerned about their self-interests. They seem to be
oblivious to the fact that so many out there need some help.
* Is life only about getting, attaining and acquiring more and
more? When will we lend a hand to so many in great need?

A Thought For Others
One day, a ten year old boy went to an ice-cream shop, sat at a
table and asked the waitress, How much is an ice-cream cone
She said, "Seventy five cents.
The boy started counting the coins he had in his hand. Then he
asked how much a small cup of ice-cream was.
The waitress impatiently replied with an unfriendly voice, "Sixty
five cents.
The boy said, "I will have the small ice-cream cup.
He had his ice-cream, paid the bill and left. When the waitress
came to pick up the empty plate, she was touched. Underneath
were ten one-cent coins as tip.
The kind little boy had consideration for the waitress before he
ordered his ice-cream. He showed sensitivity and caring. He
thought of others before himself.
Reflections
* If we all thought like the little boy, we would have a great place
to live. Consideration, courtesy, and politeness would go a long
way to bring peace and harmony among all people.
* Thoughtfulness, compassion and a caring attitude are vital
virtues so lacking in the world today.
* May we be mindful, kind and compassionate towards all
beings.
