ALBANY OFFICE:

THOMAS D. CROCI
SENATOR, 3RD DISTRICT

March 7, 2016
The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
Dear Governor Cuomo:
We are writing you on behalf of the nearly 60,000 members of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Nassau and
Suffolk Counties and the hundreds of thousands of residents and middle class families on Long Island we represent.
Your support for new development projects on Long Island is encouraging, but most of these projects will take years to
complete. Therefore, it is critical that we focus on already vetted and shovel-ready projects that can immediately create jobs and
economic opportunities for hardworking, middle class Long Island families while providing economic development opportunities in
the region.
One clear area for such action by this Administration is in its support of a vibrant energy sector on Long Island. The
Caithness II initiative in Yaphank represents a $1 billion investment from the private sector, and would bring hundreds of jobs and
sustained annual tax revenue for our schools, police and fire districts, and other municipal entities. At the same time, this project will
help assure Long Islands energy independence, improve our environment, and increase the reliability of our electric system in the
face of increasing 100 year storms brought on by climate change. The project has the strong support of the local community.
Following the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, your Administration tasked PSEG with chartering a better course for Long
Islands energy future. With 100-year storms now the norm, our on-Island power supply remains reliant on outdated, polluting plants
that sit on the shoreline, vulnerable to storm surge. We need to support the construction of secure, clean, efficient, cost-effective
power production located on Long island like Caithness II. We cannot allow bureaucracy and narrow self-interest continue standing
in the way of a project broadly supported by the local community, as evidenced by the diversity and number of signatures affixed to
this letter.
Long Island families deserve better. We respectfully ask for you to act in support of these good paying jobs and meaningful
investment in our local economies by green-lighting Caithness II.
Very Respectfully,

Thomas D. Croci
