Marquess, The Marketing

Club of IIM Ranchi organized
Sab Bikta Hai an innovative
competition to liven up life at
IIM Ranchi. The competition
tested the marketing skills of
IIM Ranchi students by forcing them to think out of the
box. Sab Bikta Hai was organized as an Ad Mad competition where the participants
were given products for which
they had to create and enact a
1 minute advertisement. The
products given were amusing
and almost impossible to sell.
The IIM Ranchi students used
their creativity and intelligence to make these strange
and unique products attractive
to consumers. They enacted
skits, composed jingles, created taglines and left the audience spellbound with their
incredible antics, all in under 1
minute. The advertisements
were so entertaining and
memorable that KFCs Vaishno (Vegetarian) Dhaba

seemed like a perfectly natural

place to visit for a meal.
Many teams competed for the
grand prize. But only one
team took home the winning
title. Team Nirmal Baba
consisting of Chakshu Kalra,
Parijat Gaur and Guneet Kaur
won the competition for their
outstanding performance.
Their conceptualization of the
advertisement was interesting
and unique. They used contemporary characters and
symbolism to catch and hold
the audiences attention. They

also employed tag lines and

entertaining story plots to add
a colour to their commercial.
But most importantly, their
advertisement spoke about the
product and its utility and
created a unique impression
in the minds of the target consumer. Thus IIM Ranchi continues to nurture a culture of
innovative participative learning that takes us beyond the
class room and into the heart
of real life applications.

Christmas Celebrations at IIM Ranchi

For last year's

words belong to
last year's
language
And next year's
words await
another voice.
And to make an
end is to make a
beginning.
T. S. Eliot

IIM Ranchi students celebrated Christmas with lots of

pomp and grandeur. They
truly demonstrated that what
makes Christmas special is the
fact that it was never about
faith or religion in the first
place. Christmas has always
been about celebrating the
spirit of togetherness and the
upcoming holiday season with
family and friends. The second
year students at IIM
Ranchi showed
great Christmas
spirit and fervour
this time around.
The common room
of IIM Ranchi was
magnificently decorated to celebrate
the festival; the centre piece was the
Christmas tree shining in all its glory;
the room was lit
with bright and colourful lights.
The week of Christmas celebrations at
IIM Ranchi saw
students carolling
their hearts out. A
week before Christmas, the senior students got together

and went from block to block,

every night, singing Christmas
carols and encouraging all and
sundry to come together and
be a part of the nightly carolling. It was a different destination for Santa and his companions, every night. Their
presence spread euphoria in
each block of the Hostel premises as students got out of
their rooms when Santa came
to greet them along with his

companions. It was great to

see one of the most cheerful
seniors around, in Santas
avatar. With Santa in the
block, students cheerfully sang
carols together in chorus at
top of their voices, every night.
The Christmas celebrations
culminated in an all studentfraternity gathering in the
common room for High Tea.
Students sang carols with
great gusto and enjoyed their
mouth-watering share of
Christmas cake with some
simmering hot coffee. It was a
welcome break from the
drudgery of regular academic
activity. All credits for such a
wonderful event goes to the
great festive spirit shown by
the seniors who collaborated
together to organize the celebrations. IIM Ranchi closed
the year with a tender heart
and warm spirit.

Letter from the Editor

I hope that in this year to
come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new
things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself,
changing yourself, changing
your world. You're doing things
you've never done before, and
more importantly, you're Doing
Something.
So that's my wish for you, and
all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make
glorious, amazing mistakes.
Make mistakes nobody's ever
made before. Don't freeze, don't
stop, don't worry that it isn't
good enough, or it isn't perfect,
whatever it is: art, or love, or
work or family or life.
Whatever it is you're scared of
doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.
Neil Gaiman
January is usually a favorite month
for us as we have the luxury of a
whole new year stretching out
before us. It is that time of the year
when we all take the usual clichd

resolutions. Exercise every day of

the year, save a lot of money or
read at least one book every
monthto name a few. Lets try
something different this year, shall
we?
Lets all promise to make mistakes!
The only thing that holds us back
from doing things we want to do is
the nagging fear of doing it wrong
and making an embarrassment of
ourselves. So this year, lets all vow
to make mistakes everyday so that
we get the courage to fail many
times. Let us dare ourselves to
reach higher peaks, create something exotic, widen our horizons to
unchartered waters and live life to
the fullest knowing that we are
doing things we have never done
before. Let us set our sights so high
that even failure will have in it an
echo of glory.
Even Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO
of Facebook, admitted that the
secret of his success is in making a
lot of mistakes. In a recent town
hall meeting at the companys
headquarters in Menlo Park, Mr.
Zuckerberg said that successful
people not only learn from their
mistakes but spend most of their
time making mistakes.If youre

successful, most of the things youve done

were wrong, he said. What ends up
mattering is the stuff you get right. If you
get a few big things right, you can make
some pretty important changes in the
world.
So, lets make a promise to have a
big list of mistakes by the time
2015 runs its course and continue
doing the same knowing that we
are, more often not, just one mistake away from achieving something really special!
