1. The term Industrial Relations comprises of two terms: Industry and Relations. Industry
refers to any productive activity in which an individual (or a group of individuals) is (are)
engaged. By relations we mean the relationships that exist within the industry between the
employer and his workmen. The term industrial relations explain the relationship between
employees and management which stems directly or indirectly from union-employer relationship.
(a) What is the difference between Industrial Relations and Employee Relations? (b) What are the
Preconditions for sound industrial or employment relations in a unionized and nonunionized
situations?(10pts)
2. An IR strategy may be expressed as an enterprises capacity to develop and implement a sound
industrial relations management plan which ensures that industrial relations issues and risks are
identified, assessed and managed. The IR Strategy should demonstrate the integration of
industrial relations requirements with the normal procedures, practices and performance standards
of the enterprise. (a) What are the factors (internal and external) that affect industrial relations
strategy? (b) Identify the most common industrial strategies and conditions for application.(10pts)
3. Compare and contrast employees participation and grievance procedures in organizations
administered under the labor Law (Proclamation No 377/2003) and the civil servants law (Federal
Civil Servants Proclamation No. 515/2006). (5pts)
