Just

Come
And See,
Part 1
(Just

Jesus
Evangelis

Campaig
n #14)

John
1:43-51:
43 The
day

following
Jesus
would go
forth into
Galilee,

and
findeth
Philip,
and saith
unto him,

Follow
me.
44 Now
Philip was

of
Bethsaida
, the city
of Andrew
and Peter.

45 Philip
findeth
Nathanael
, and

saith unto
him, We
have
found
him, of

whom
Moses in
the law,
and the
prophets,

did write,
Jesus of
Nazareth,
the son of
Joseph.

46 And
Nathanael
said unto
him, Can

there any
good
thing
come out
of

Nazareth
? Philip
saith unto
him,

Come
and see.
47 Jesus
saw

Nathanael
coming to
him, and
saith of
him,

Behold an
Israelite
indeed, in
whom is
no guile!

48
Nathanael
saith unto
him,

Whence
knowest
thou me?
Jesus
answered

and said
unto him,
Before
that Philip
called

thee,
when
thou wast
under the

fig tree, I
saw thee.
49
Nathanael

answered
and saith
unto him,
Rabbi,
thou art

the Son of
God; thou
art the
King of
Israel.

50 Jesus
answered
and said
unto him,

Because I
said unto
thee, I
saw thee
under the

fig tree,
believest
thou?
thou shalt
see

greater
things
than
these.

51 And he
saith unto
him,
Verily,
verily, I

say unto
you,
Hereafter
ye shall
see

heaven
open, and
the
angels of
God

ascending
and
descendin
g upon

the Son of
man.

keep the
main thing
the main

thing -and that is

reaching
unbeliever

Gospel of
the Lord
Jesus
Christ and
praying

for their
salvation,
for the
problem in
America is

disobedie

This
campaign
is inspired
by 1

Corinthian
s 2:2: "For
I
determine
d not to

know
anything
among
you, save
Jesus

Christ,
and him
crucified."
As well as
Acts 5:42

which
says,
"And daily
in the
temple,

and in
every
house,
they
ceased

not to
teach and
preach
Jesus
Christ."

This is
message
number
14.

Michael
Rogness
said, "Our
task as
Christians

is not to
'prove' the
truth of
the
Christian

faith,
although
many
scholars
have

written
persuasiv
ely of the
truth of
Christianit

y. Our
task is not
even to
persuade
others to

become
Christian.
Our task
is to say,

'Come
and see.'"
John's
account of

the
beginning
days of
Jesus'
ministry

continues
with the
call of
Philip. We
are not

told much
about
Philip
joining
Jesus'

team of
disciples,
just that
Jesus told
him,

"Follow
me," and
he did.
The other
Gospel

accounts
inform us
that Jesus
had
previously

encounter
ed Philip,
and
evidently,
Philip was

already
convinced
that Jesus
was the
Messiah

so he did
not
express
any
reservatio

ns or
doubt
about
following

Jesus
here.
In fact, we
are

immediate
ly told that
Philip
goes and
finds

somebody
else, a
man
named
Nathaniel,

and tells
him, "We
have
found him,
of whom

Moses in
the law,
and the
prophets,
did write,

Jesus of
Nazareth,
the son of
Joseph."
Philip, like

Andrew,
had the
mind to
share the
good

news of
the
Messiah's
arrival
with

others.
Philip,
however,
refers to
Jesus as

"the son
of
Joseph,"
indicating
that he did

not fully
understan
d Jesus'
nature.
However,

his lack of
understan
ding did
not hinder
him from

telling
others
about
what he
knew.

That
ought to
inspire us
today: you
don't have

to be a
theologian
or a
seminary
graduate

to tell
someone
about
Jesus
Christ.

Use what
you know,
introduce
people to
Jesus,

and let
God do
the rest.
That is
what we

see in
Philip's
actions.

Nathaniel,
at first,
expresses
doubt
about

Jesus'
origin. He
says,
"Can
there any

good thing
come out
of
Nazareth?
" He, like

many
people
today,
was a
skeptic.

The fact
that Jesus
came
from
Nazareth

was a
stumbling
block for
him. He
thought

that the
Messiah
would
certainly
come out

of one of
the larger,
more
important
cities such

as
Jerusalem
or
Hebron.
Many

people
today
pass
Jesus by
because

He came
as a
vulnerable
infant and
took the

path of
the
suffering
servant.
We want

a hero
who
descends
from the
sky with

lightning
and
thunder,
but that is
not what

God gives
us.
How does
Philip,

who
himself
knows
very little
about this

Jesus,
respond
to
Nathaniel
? He

simply
says,
"Come
and see."
He

doesn't try
to prove
that Jesus
is who He
says He

is. He
doesn't try
to
convince
Nathaniel

of Jesus'
true
nature. He
simply
says,

"Come
and see."
That's our
job -- to
introduce

people to
Jesus.
When the
British
Bible

scholar,
J.B.
Phillips,
translated
the

Gospels,
he was
impressed
by the
personalit

y of Jesus
and how
He drew
others to
himself.

He
concluded
that there
must have
been

something
extraordin
ary about
His
person

that
affected
those with
whom he
came into

contact.
He stated
that there
must have
been

something
magnetic
about
Jesus'
personalit

y to have
such an
immediate
effect on
people.

When
people
met God
in the

flesh, they
knew that
they had
encounter
ed

Someone
different.
They
couldn't
explain it

all at first.
But, if
they
chose to
place their

faith and
trust in
Him -- like
Andrew
did, like

Peter did,
like Philip
did, like
millions
have done

down
through
history -their lives
would

never be
the same.
If you
don't

know this
Jesus, I
invite you
to get to
know Him

today. I
know you
don't
understan
d

everything
about Him
right now,
but the
only way

to get to
know Him
is to come
and see

The
basics
about
Jesus
Christ and

why He
came to
earth are
captured
in John

3:16
which
reads,
"For God
so loved

the world,
that He
gave His
only
begotten

Son, that
whosoeve
r believeth
in Him
should not

perish, but
have
everlastin
g life."

The
phrase
"For God
so loved
the world"

means
that if you
are in this
world,
God loves

you no
matter
what you
have
done.

The next
phrase,
"that He
gave His

only
begotten
Son"
refers to
Jesus

Christ. He
is God's
son who
suffered,
bled, and

died on
the cross
for your
sins and
for mine,

and He
was
buried
and rose
again.

Our next
phrase is
"that
whosoeve

r believeth
in Him".
The word
"whosoev
er" means

anybody
at
anytime.
The
phrase

"believeth
in Him"
means to
trust in
Him, to

depend
upon Him,
to rely on
Him, or to
have faith

in Him for
your
salvation.

Our next
phrase,
"should
not
perish",

refers to
eternal
punishme
nt in a
place

called
hell.
And,
lastly, the

phrase
"but have
everlastin
g life"
means to

live
eternally
in Heaven
with God.

The Bible
also says
in
Romans
10:9 and

13: "That
if thou
shalt
confess
with thy

mouth the
Lord
Jesus,
and shalt
believe in

thine
heart that
God hath
raised him
from the

dead,
thou shalt
be
saved....
For

whosoeve
r shall call
upon the
name of
the Lord

shall be
saved."
Dear
friend, if

you are
willing to
believe on
the Lord
Jesus

Christ for
salvation,
please
pray with
me this

simple
prayer:
Heavenly
Father, I
realize

that I am
a sinner
and that I
have done
some bad

things in
my life.
For Jesus
Christ
sake,

please
forgive me
of my
sins. I
now

believe
with all of
my heart
that Jesus
Christ

died for
me, was
buried,
and rose
again.

Lord
Jesus,
please
come into
my heart

and save
my soul
and
change
my life

today.
Amen.
If you
believed

in your
heart that
Jesus
Christ
died on

the cross,
was
buried,
and rose
again,

allow me
to say,
congratula
tions on
doing the

most
important
thing in
life and
that is

accepting
Jesus
Christ as
your Lord
and

Saviour!
