Say: "I have no power over any good or harm to Myself except As Allah
willeth. If I had knowledge of the Unseen, I should have multiplied all
good, and no evil should have touched Me: I am but a warner, and a
bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith." [Anfal 7:188]

Imam Baqli says that it refers to matters which are from azl. Meaning that
I do not possess for myself proximity to Allah or distance but closeness
and distance are from Him from azl. He also says that the meaning of if I
knew the unseen is a negation of Lordship. (Rububiyyah)

Shaykh Ismai Haqqi, says that this ayah is conditional upon except as
Allah wills. Therefore the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, possess as much of harm and benefit as Allah wills. And that this
is more eloquent is expressing ones incapacity. He also says that some of
the mashayikh have said that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant
him peace, knows the time of the Hour and this is not negated by hasr in
the above ayah.

Ibn Ajiba says similar to the above.

Baghawi relates from Sayyidina Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with
them, that the reason for this revelation was that the people of Makkah
taunted the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying,
does your Lord tell you when goods are cheap, so we can buy them
before they become expensive, and land where they may be drought, so
we may move from there, and how long it will be dry for.

Ibn al-Jawzi says there are four opinions regarding the meaning, if I
knew the unseen I would have increased in good
1. regarding lands which are under drought so I would have prepared for
them.
2. goods which will make a profit, Dahhak relates this from Ibn Abbas.
3. before I die so I would have increased in good works, which is related
by Mujahid.
4. if I knew the unseen then I would have answered your questions on it.

Ibn Kathir says that Allah is ordering the Prophet here to consign all of
his affairs to Him, and to say regarding himself that he does not know the
future except that which Allah has granted him knowledge of:

and then He makes a band of watchers march before Him and behind him,
