What is Integumen?
Integumentary system is the organ system that distinguishes, separates,
protects and informs the animal to the surrounding environment. These
systems are often the biggest part of the organ system that covers the
skin, hair, scales, nails, sweat glands and their products (sweat or mucus).
Integument word comes from the Latin "integumentum" which means
"cover". (Wikipedia)

Histological Structure of Human Skin

Epidermis

Dermis

Hipodermis

2/4/2016

EPIDERMIS
Composed of multilayer flat
epithelium.
There are stem cells are actively
dividing.
Composed of four layers:
1. Stratum corneum.
2. Stratum lusidum.
3. Stratum granulosum.
4. Stratum malpigi.
Composed of:
1. Stratum spinosum.
2. Stratum germ (basale)

DERMIS
Several times thicker than the
epidermis.
Composed of connective tissue.
Composed of:
1. Stratum papilare.
2. Stratum retikulare.

HIPODERMIS
A layer under the skin that serves
to attach the skin to the deeper
parts of the body such as muscle.
Composed of loose connective
tissue. Component is collagen
fibers, elastic, and the fat cells in
adipose tissue menggangun

INTEGUMEN PISCES

Stratum corneum in Pisces does not develop or none at all. Epidermis

layer contains a lot of mucus glands, which consists of glands unicellular
and multicellular glands.

Derivatives of the dermis of the skin in the form of scales Pisces. Bone
or dermal scales scales possessed by almost all the fish. There are five
kinds of scales on Pisces, namely: kosmoid, plakoid, ganoid, cycloid,
stenoid.

INTEGUMEN AMPHIBIA

Amphibious integument is useful to protect themselves from

unfavorable external circumstances, to respiratory and water
absorption. The epidermis is very thin (5-8 setebat cells), containing
mucopolysaccharides to prevent dryness. Stratum corneum contain
keratin. Amphibious much alive in the water has a very thin stratum
corneum, or none at all. Derivate epidermis the frog is mucus glands
and granular glands.

INTEGUMEN REPTILIA

Reptile skin epidermis with a thick stratum corneum contain keratin to

prevent dehydration. Epidermal glands found on reptiles including scent
glands on the tail (in some lizards), on the cloaca (at most squamata),
thigh (the lizard) and under the jaw. There is also a gland that resembles
the epidermal oil glands in mammals.

Derivate epidermal other reptilian scales horn is formed by epidermal

thickening and hardening of the gore (undergoes cornification).

INTEGUMEN AVES

In general, Aves has a thin skin and a few contain keratin. The
relationship between the skin and the tissues which is next to it is not
close.

The hallmark of the skin aves is their feathers that are derivatives of the
stratum corneum are experiencing very strong keratinasi. Based on his
anatomical structure, feathers aves can be divided into three kinds,
namely plumulae, filaplumae.

INTEGUMEN MAMMALIA

Relatively thick thick skin of mammals, especially part dermisnya. The

skin has very close ties with the muscle tissue located next to it.

Hallmark of mammalian hair cover their body that are derivatives of

startum corneum. Part of the palms and soles of the feet are not covered
with hair. In parts of the body hair sparse - sparse and parts are often
exposed to friction or pressure, epidermisnya have thickening.

Hair Structure

Hair consists of the roots and stems. Although it is a derivative of the

epidermis, hair roots and stems partly contained in the dermis,
epidermis partially penetrate the hair shaft and protruding to the
surface.

Oil glands (sebaceous glands). Only found in mammals. There are

around and is geared towards the hair, the oil is used to lubricate the
hair.

The scent glands. Contained in the anal area (in guinea pigs), in
advance (at bat), on the back (in mice, kangaroo) or on other body
parts.

Mammary gland. Only in Mammalia who breastfeed their children. The

number of mammary glands varies according to the number of children
perinduk (1-12 pairs).
