Moody Poetry

(CCSS RL 8.4)

The Assignment:
Write two poems with two opposing moods. The subject
matter of the two poems should be the same, but the word choices
should portray completely different moods. Include poetic devices
Poe used in his work.
For example, you could write two poems about a walk in the
park. One poem could talk about the budding flowers and warm
sunshine so as to create a cheerful mood. They other might
mention dark, brooding clouds or the shadows stretching from the
trees to create a spooky mood.
Details:

Two poems (each 1 page in length) covering the same subject matter
Moods are clearly opposites in each poem
Poetic devices used in both poems (alliteration, repetition, etc.)
Vivid adjectives to create the scene
