Sonnet
A sonnet is a fourteen-line poem in iambic pentameter. It has a
specific structure and rhyming pattern. Sonnets are usually
associated with love.
Imagery
Using language techniques to create an image in the reader's mind.
The Sonnet we are going to look at begins with
“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”
If someone compared you to a summer’s day, would you be flattered? Why/Why not?
Challenge: How many syllables does the line above have? What does this replicate and what
is it called?
