A sonnet is a fourteen-line poem in iambic pentameter. It has a
specific structure and rhyming pattern. Sonnets are usually
associated with love.

● The Shakespearean sonnet has three


quatrains followed by a couplet.
● Quatrains are four line stanzas ( Or 4 line
verses)
● A couplet is a 2 line verse
● So altogether a sonnet has 4+4+4+2 lines = 14
