Assessment # 1 - Individual Poetry Book

You are required to make a Poetry Book which will broaden your exposure to different kinds of
poems and their structure/format/layout.

Answer the following questions based on the Types of Poems listed below:
 Limerick Poem
 Haiku Poem
 Shape Poem
 Acrostic Poem
 Free Verse Poem
 Sonnet

1. Define each type of poem listed above.

2. Give a brief (short) discussion on the structure of each of the type listed above. You can discuss
elements such as the length/meter, line, stanza, rhythm, rhyme scheme, etc on each poem.

3. Get two (2) examples each of the poems listed. Each poem should be placed on one (1) page and
each is to be illustrated.

Illustration can be pictures, diagrams, drawings, photo collages, paintings, or any other explanatory
or decorative features that pertain to the poem. This is an excellent way to picture the poem in our
minds since illustration helps to tell the story in the poem and make the words come to life in our
imagination.

4. Choose any three (3) of the types listed and compose a poem on your own sticking to the
structure/format of that poem.

No poem should be copied off the internet. Marks will be awarded for originality!

NOTE:
Your Poetry Book must include the Grading Rubric/Mark Scheme (see below), Cover/Title page, Author’s
Name, Content Page and Page Numbers.
Your Poetry Book will be marked based on the layout/structure/format of your poems, coherence
(organization or layout of your content), creativity, illustration used and overall presentation.
