A dear friend was lamenting about the calories she had consumed during a dinner
last week at Le Meurice in Paris, I reminded her that the only time to eat diet
food is while youre waiting for the steak to cook.
I enjoy watching my successors on The Food Network. They are talented, passionate
about their craft, and often enjoyably cheeky. Still, I cant help but wonder how they
would have fared during the dark ages of food shows -- when filming included things like
the production assistants hiding on the floor, out of the cameras sight, and catching the
scraps that chefs were discarding. Certainly not for the faint of heart, Princess Giada!

Its a good thing that my most iconic photographs which showed me wielding
butcher knives, cleavers and mallets were taken many decades ago. If they were
taken today, I would probably be under surveillance by the CIA.
