STANDARD 5.

0: DEMONSTRATE INDUSTRY STANDARD PRODUCTION PRACTICES

5.1: DEMONSTRATE APPROPRIATE ELECTRONIC FIELD PRODUCTION (EFP) PRACTICES
Introduction to Standard: I chose media that demonstrated appropriate electronic field
production practices. I learned more about electronic field production practices. I will use this in
the future next time I film.
5.1.1 Evaluate possible shooting locations for a project (e.g., sound, lighting, environment, etc.)
Title of Artifact: The Hunger Games
Creator: Gary Ross
Date of Entry: may 8
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
The places they chose were in Kentucky for shooting, but they could have chosen any other
possible place in America. They shot the Seam scenes and parts of the forest in Kentucky. They
chose this specific place because it had lush forest spots with bright green grass. There were
also parts where they could create a rundown, poor district 12.
5.1.2 Perform field production jobs to include camera, lighting, and sound technicians
Title of Artifact: Malcom in the Middle
Creator: Linwood Boomer
Date of Entry: May 8
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
This show I watched had jobs to include camera, lighting, and sound technicians. There was a
lot that went into this show and I always found this old show funny. This was your basic comedy
sitcom show that almost everybody enjoyed.
5.1.3 Demonstrate basic field camera operations to reflect each location
Title of Artifact: Catching Fire
Creator: Francis Lawrence
Date of Entry: May 7
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
There are several different locations in this film because each section of the arena has a
different location. The camera operations reflect them amazingly. For example, in the forest,
they follow through the thick trees. While in the ocean, they bob the camera up and down
through the waves.

5.1.4 Determine camera shooting techniques appropriate for the production, such as shot
composition, angle, and use of mounting devices
Title of Artifact: The Uninvited
Creator: Thomas and Charles Guard
Date of Entry: May 4
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
This movie was absolutely shocking towards the end and I adore movies like that. These
camera shooting techniques were different than what Ive seen before. They had to be very sly
to not reveal a major secret that was in front of our eyes the entire time throughout the movie.
5.1.5 Create a project outside the studio using field equipment and technique
Title of Artifact: Mockingjay
Creator: Francis Lawrence
Date of Entry: May 3
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I loved this movie!!!!! It was filmed mostly outside a studio and more in the wilderness than
anything else. My favorite scene was when they were outside in the forest near district 12 and
Katniss started to sing her infamous song, The Hanging Tree.
5.2: DEMONSTRATE APPROPRIATE STUDIO OPERATION
Introduction to Standard: I chose media that demonstrated appropriate studio operations. I
learned how to demonstrate appropriate studio operations. I will demonstrate appropriate studio
operations when I am filming.
5.2.1 Demonstrate the setup and operation of basic studio equipment (e.g., switcher,
teleprompter, recording
unit, etc.) for specific project needs
Title of Artifact: Chandelier
Creator: Sia
Date of Entry: March 3rd
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.

Today I watched the music video for Chandelier by Sia. This is an excellent song by an excellent
singer. The music video I thought was very abstract and unique. The camera barely uses any
cuts and follows the child dancer through the scene without stopping.
5.2.2 Perform the jobs necessary for a studio production (e.g., director, technical director (TD),
audio engineer,
recording/playback engineer, etc.)
Title of Artifact: Impratcial Jokers
Creator: P.J. Morrison
Date of Entry:Today I watched a show called Impractical Jokers. This is one of my favorite
comedy shows because it can always make me laugh no matter what. The show has simple
techniques of camera angles and plain cuts. I think thats why I like it, though. Its refreshing to
see such a simple show with such simple things and not heavily edited.
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
5.2.3 Demonstrate basic studio camera operation
Title of Artifact: Hide and Seek
Creator: John Polson
Date of Entry: May 2
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I watched this movie and although it was a really great movie, it has basic studio camera
operations. It was a psychological thriller that the plot I thoroloughy enjoyed. However, the
camera operations were simple and not as clever as I wished them to be.
5.2.4 Create and incorporate titles and other graphics in a studio production
Title of Artifact: Star Wars
Creator: JJ Abrams
Date of Entry: May 1
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I watched the new Star Wars trailer and they incorporated the infamous Star Wars title. It was
an awesome graphic that everybody knows and loves. It seemed a bit updated to the modern
age but it still looked the same nevertheless. I loved that they showed it again so that everybody
could see it.
5.2.5 Use proper studio lighting

Title of Artifact: Broadcast

Creator: Me
Date of Entry: April 3
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
Stacie and I used proper studio lighting when we took pictures of each other. We set up three
lights on each side so that it was evenly balanced out.
5.2.6 Create a project inside the studio environment
Title of Artifact: Broadcast
Creator: Me
Date of Entry: April 30
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I was inside a studio broadcast when I helped Daniel film. He was in front of the green screen
and there were lights all around.
5.3: PERFORM ON-CAMERA
Introduction to Standard: I chose media that had performance on camera. I learned there are
different ways to prepare for perforances. I will use this next time I am on camera.
5.3.1 Demonstrate appropriate speaking skills for an on-camera performance (e.g., pitch, tone,
emphasis, inflection, enunciation, timing, etc.)
Title of Artifact: Interstellar
Creator: Christopher Nolan
Date of Entry: Jamuary 9th, 2014
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
Today I watched the movie Interstellar. This movie is very complex and has tons of small details
that you might miss if you dont pay attention. At one point in the film, the spaceship Endurance
is at a planet called Miller. A team decides to descend into the planet, but leaves one person,
Romilly, in the ship. An unexpected problem happens on the planet and delays the team to
getting back to the ship. When they finally do get back, 23 years have passed, even though they
were only on the planet for a few hours. Romilly, who was cleanly shaven when they left him,
has a scruffy beard and looks terrible. I noticed that he wrings his hands a lot, a sign showing
that he developed a nervous habit or twitch. He was alone on the ship for 23 years, so he had
difficulty keeping sane while being alone.

5.3.2 Practice appropriate on-camera performance skills (e.g., appearance, gestures, posture,
etc.)
Title of Artifact: The Hills Have Eyes 2
Creator:Martin Weiz
Date of Entry: April 29
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I watched this movie with my boyfriend the other night. This was a terrifying movie that gave me
nightmares and I will not watch ever again. I do not recommend it. The mutants were perfectly
good with their on camera performance skills. I knew they had to practice moving and walking
because theres no way they could practice with all that makeup caked onto their face.
5.3.3 Read for a camera using a teleprompter or cue cards
Title of Artifact: Bruce Almighty
Creator: Tom Shadyac
Date of Entry: February 12
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
I watched Bruce Almighty today and it was funny.I loved the scene where he was reading from
the teleprompter and none of it made any sense. It was hilarious because he continued to read
it even though he couldnt understand any of it.

5.3.4 Perform as talent in a production

Title of Artifact: The Vampire Diaries
Creator: CW Network
Date of Entry: December 24th, 2014
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
Today I watched a show titled The Vampire Diaries. The episode included a character named
Bonnie Bennett. She is stuck in a world where the same day repeats and she is completely
alone. Shes a witch and she is continuously struggling with trying to escape the world shes in.
Even though shes repeating the same day, she manages to keep track of real time. Christmas
rolls around and even though shes all alone, she reenacts her towns annual Christmas tree
lighting ceremony. She keeps having flashbacks of the one when she was in high school, with
her two best friends. At the end of the episode, with teary eyes, she lights the tree on fire and
walks away. I feel this represents how she feels because she is all alone in a world she might
never escape.

5.3.5 Deliver material without bias (voice inflection or gesture)

Title of Artifact: News
Creator: FOX
Date of Entry: April 28
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
The News is always delivered without any bias information or voice. They simply report the
information they are given on the screen. They sometimes sound robotic when the talk because
they are so monotone. I think this is the only material that can be delivered on TV without
sounding biased.
5.3.6 Select clothing, makeup, and accessories appropriate for use on-camera in a specific
production
Title of Artifact: The Hunger Games
Creator: Gary Ross
Date of Entry: January, 20th, 2014
Observations about how your artifact relates to the standard, and your evaluation of its success
or what it teaches about the standard.
Today, I watched The Hunger Games. This movie was the first of trilogy and its my least
favorite. I disliked the rocky motion of the camera that happened in almost every scene. But I
think the thing that I liked the most was most definitely Effie Trinkets outfits and makeup. Every
time she appeared on screen she looked stunning.
