Answer All the Questions
a) (i) In an orthogonal cutting test with a tool of rake angle 10
the following observations were made:
Chip thickness ratio= 0.3. Horizontal component of the cutting
force =1290 N, Vertical component of the cutting force = 1650 N.
from the Merchants theory, calculate the various components of
the cutting forces and the coefficient of friction at the chip tool
interface.

explain. Name the various cutting tool materials.

(b) (i) The Taylorian tool-life equation for machining C-40 steel with
18:4:1 HSS cutting tool at a feed rate of 0.02 mm/min and a depth of cut
