Name and Description of Activity

This week was mostly about meetings. Monday I met with my principal and we discussed what component I
could work on while we wait for approval of our Summer School Proposal. I will take the lead on the team
that will evaluate and help choose a learning and assessment tool to help teachers align curriculum, assess
students and gather data on students. Monday afternoon I began to research another option: AIS. Since we do
not have a plan I thought that that would be a good proposal.
After our faculty meeting on Tuesday, where summer school was discussed, I met with my building principal
to see what guidance she could give me, and we decided that I would focus my energy on helping choose a
LMS (Learning Management System) to use in an AIS program and supplement instruction. I also spoke
with our Director of Instruction who will be another important point of contact for this internship. I also
attended a Board Meeting to hear the Director of Instruction speak about the LMS that he is going to bring to
the school district.
Finally, I spent hours researching and comparing AIS Programs and Policies to see how they differ from
ours. We do not have a complete policy and Id like to, at the very least have a complete policy in place that
has clear entry and exit policies for AIS, along with a viable ways to assess and gather valuable data.

Reflections and Insights

I have really learned so much this week! First of all, you may spend many hours on a proposal only to find
out that it may not get approved or added in the budget. If and when that happens, you may have shift gears
and come up with a different plan. Fortunately, we have a new office of Instruction and much work needs to
be done. On the top of my list is AIS because my principal has asked me to focus on that. The really cool
thing is that I have the opportunity to run the AIS program next year, too. I have many options to consider as
I move forward.

Questions
I want my experience to make an impact, so I wonder how I can make sure that it does.
I wonder if my culminating activity can include a Board Presentation.
