Modeling A Procedure

Leaving The Classroom

By: Lawrence Johnson
I.

EXPLAIN

Today, we will learn how to quietly and efficiently leave the classroom.
II.

GENERATE THE RATIONALE

The reason for learning how to properly leave the classroom is to ensure that we are prepared to
move to the next class as quickly as possible and that the room is sufficiently ready for the next
class that will use it.
III.

EXPLAIN AND MODEL

The steps for leaving the classroom are as follows:

1. When given permission by the teacher to do, students will stop working and, while
remaining seated, begin to pack up all books and supplies.
2. After packing up all books and supplies, students will clean up any and all trash in their
immediate area.
3. Once all trash is cleaned up, students will stand up at their desk.
4. Students will remain at their desk until instructed by the teacher to line up by the door.
5. Once given permission to line up, students will quietly line up, single file (space
permitting), by the classroom door.
6. Students will wait for the permission of the teacher to exit the classroom, even if the bell
rings.
7. As students exit the classroom, they will throw any collected trash into the trash bin
located by the door.

IV.

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING

After a brief demonstration of the steps, students will answer the following questions
about leaving the classroom:
1. What will students do first?
2. When do students stand up to leave?
3. When do you actually leave the classroom?

V.

REHEARSE AND PRACTICE

After a brief moment to ensure understanding of the procedure, students will conduct a rehearsal
of entering the classroom as a group.

VI.

RE-INFORCE

After rehearsal, I will provide feedback about the performance of the procedure during rehearsal
and practice again, if necessary.
