Title: Integration of learning technology with cultural-oriented and taskbased lesson plan

Abstract:
In this session, the presenter will explore effective integration of multiple
learning technologies in teaching Chinese to high school and adult students.
This presentation will focus on how to incorporate technology in adapting
lesson planning to accommodate different learning styles and create a
student-centered learning environment. The presenters will also demonstrate
different learning technologies and applications for students to learn and
interact with peers and the instructor in a mobile-learning environment.
Presentation Description:
This presentation will detail specifics of a 50-minute lesson plan titled
Cultural Awareness: comparison between holidays in China and in the
United States that incorporates numerous learning methods to create an
interesting and learner-centered learning environment featuring task-based
and cooperative approaches:
1. Lesson requires students to apply Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
in Blooms Taxonomy in order to complete the task assignment.
Students will apply various skills and technologies by using search
engines such as Google and Yahoo!; analyze and evaluate the
information obtained from the internet in order to screen and organize
the materials; finally, by using web tools/app such as Prezi and
Keynote, create a presentation to help them introduce their findings
and decision to the rest of the class.
2. Task activities accommodate students with different learning styles.
Not only does the lesson plan allow students to apply learning by
doing and experiential learning, it also asks students to engage
quality solitary learning by researching text/picture/video-rich internet
resources, along with inspiring brain storming, team working, and
group discussion by using web tools/apps such as Skype, Twitter, or
Lino. Therefore, the lesson could arguably cover all aspects in multiintelligence, i.e., linguistic, logical, interpersonal, intrapersonal,
musical, visual/spatial, naturalistic, and kinesthetic aspects.
3. This cultural-oriented and task-based lesson plan for Chinese learners
will produce observable and multiple outcomes, with real-life relevance
and primary focus on exchange of information, rather than just
practicing certain linguistic form.
