UO President Wins Leadership Award


Oct. 27, 2015, Eugene, Ore. The Board of Directors of the Eugene
Chamber of Commerce chose University of Oregon President Michael
Schill for the Emerald Award for Leadership. On Nov. 19, the Chamber
will present the award to Schill at the annual Emerald Awards
ceremony.
The Emerald Award for Leadership is a brand new award and Schill is
the first ever recipient. The ceremony will take place at the John Phillip
Sousa Ballroom at the Hilton, located in downtown Eugene. The event
will start at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.
Michael Schill is a shining example of a great leader, said David
Hauser, president of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce. His research
on real estate and housing policy issues go above and beyond to
address issues faced by Lane County residents.
After completing his law degree at Yale in 1984, Schill practiced at
Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, an international law firm. He
later worked at numerous universities as a professor, specializing in
real estate and property law. Schill also co-authored numerous books
and was editor of Housing and Community Development in New York
City: Facing The Future.
The University of Oregon Board of Trustees appointed Schill as the 18 th
president on April 14, 2015 and he took office in July. Previously, Schill
served as the dean of at University of Chicagos and UCLAs law
schools. During his five and a half years at UCLA, alumni donations
doubled and private philanthropy tripled.
It is truly an honor to receive this award from the Chamber of
Commerce, said Schill. The remarkable students of the University of
Oregon inspire me to lead and make a difference in this community.
