San Diego City Fire Fighters Go For Ward
District 3 Candidate Sweeps All Public Safety Organizations

San Diego City Council District 3 candidate Chris Ward today announced that he has received
the endorsement of the San Diego City Fire Fighters. This is the third of the citys public safety
associations to weigh in on the District 3 race and the fourth public safety organization. The San
Diego Lifeguards, San Diego Police Officers Association, and National Latino Peace Officers
Association Advocacy have also endorsed Ward in his campaign for the District 3 seat, currently
held by term-limited Councilmember Todd Gloria.
Our fire season is year-round and the magnificent canyons that transect District 3 also put us
at risk. As a San Diegan, I know how important our fire fighters are for keeping us safe, said
Ward. As the District 3 Councilmember, I commit to addressing retention to ensure we have a
Department that has the resources and personnel it needs.
Chris understands the challenges facing the Fire Department from the 19 new stations we
know we need today to investment in equipment, technology, and fleet maintenance. We
believe he will be a partner to find solutions and keep our neighborhoods safe, said Alan
Arrollado, President, San Diego Fire Fighters.
Chris Ward is a longtime District 3 resident. He has experience serving all communities within
the district as Chief of Staff to Senator Marty Block, and previously was an environmental
planner for the firm EDAW. He received his Masters in Public Policy and Urban Planning from
Harvards John F. Kennedy School of Government. Chris and his partner, Thom, live in
University Heights with their baby daughter.
