City Council Representative (District 9)

Keep District 9 Safe

Democrats For City Hall
Fight For Our City
The District 9 City Councilor will make critical decisions for the center city area for his/her two-year term. District 9 includes
the neighborhoods of Alvarado Estates, City Heights, College Area, College View Estates, El Cerrito, Kensington, Mountain View, Mt.
Hope, Rolando, Southcrest, and Talmadge. The city councillor's job is to decide where the money of these certain areas goes to within
the district. The money from the District 9 taxpayers is divided up. A piece goes to the state, and a piece goes back into the
community. This money funds things like sidewalk repair, street light installations, or upgrades and other simple city-funded
amenities. As an elected city council member, they also discuss, vote, and plan for the city as a whole. Both candidates have very
similar views on most topics. One of the most controversial topics is the cheaper housing plan. They both think that housing in D9
should be cheaper but neither have a plan on how to do this. Both candidates want measures C (a new stadium) and D (tourist
advertising) to fail and plan to help D9 not pay for these things.

Shake Up City Hall

Part Of Our Community
Gomez for D9

Ricardo Flores is dedicated to keeping our families and

neighborhoods safe. He plans to Improve on response time for first
responders like fire-fighters and police officers. Response time is
currently 72% as fast as the national average.
He
also wants to address D9s infrastructure needs. He will do this by
providing new streetlights and providing sidewalk/street repair
where it is needed. Flores plans to creating parks and open spaces. It
is very important that we are always improving our city parks. People
need places that dont cost anything so they can relax and spend time
and build a community starting with parks.
The preservation of the districts water and environment is very
important to Flores, as are. passing laws that protect our local water
quality. He also plans on passing a strong climate action plan. He
strongly opposes the new stadium.
Supporting working families is critical for D9 to be successful. This
will include providing maternity leave and fair hours. He will hire the
highest possible grade of workers for city funded jobs.
Other things Ricardo Flores has put at the forefront of his plans
are to create 4,000 spaces of affordable housing to prevent the
negative side of gentrification. Planned Parenthood ranked him
100% pro Planned Parenthood. He has been living in D9 since 2005
and helped bring a therapeutic recreation center to City Heights that
will serve seniors and the disabled. A vote for Ricardo Flores is a vote
for firefighters, no stadium, and a spokesman for the working class.

Gomez has many plans for city hall. Her biggest plan is the
campaign called

Not One Dime. On her website she says, The latest

proposal is for a downtown stadium estimated at a total cost of $1.8
billion. All this, while were still paying off Qualcomm! She plans to
start using D9s tax money for D9. She plans to put the money
towards fixing city infrastructure, keeping and building libraries, and
improving the public transit system. She says, I will ensure our
infrastructure needs are handled in a coordinated and complete
fashion. Potholes (streets and sidewalks), crosswalks, and street
lamps are all included in her plan.
Along with all that, she is an advocate for public safety. She says, I
will ensure our streets are safe by investing in public safety. Every
member of our community should feel safe living, working and
playing in our community. She believes that our money should also
go to fund the police and our firefighters.
Along with that, she wants people to have the safety and comfort
of a solid home. She promises to ensure everyone in District 9 has
access to clean and safe housing, from young people to working class
families and our seniors.
She also wants to give District 9 back to the small businesses. She
wants to work to remove all the out of date regulations that mess
with small business success. Last but not least, she says that, The
City needs to conserve our most precious natural resource water
and reduce our carbon footprint. I will invest more in alternative
forms of transportation. She Is working to remove pollution from
the public transit system to reduce our carbon footprint.

WE need to put more focus into our neighborhoods. No to C and D;

yes to neighborhoods --Ricardo Flores, City Council candidate

Georgette Gomez is a leader who has dedicated her life to making a

difference in San Diego. She has taken on special interests, stood up
to corporate polluters, and been a committed advocate for
neighborhoods. I have no doubt that Georgette will bring a fresh
perspective to City Hall and ensure that the needs of our
neighborhoods always come first. -- Todd Gloria
