How to mark out the cross halving joint :

Step 1
Check the material for knots and any
defects. Once you have cleared out any
knots or defects select the face side and
face edge that you want to cut out.
During the development of
the billy kart we had to remove knots
from the wood

Step 2
Take you Try square and make sure that all
the ends and edges are straight. Mark out if
there are any ends that need to be cut.
Using the drop saw remove these defects.
During our construction we
came across this decet once or
twice

Step 3
To accurately Mark the distances in for the
joint use a trisquare pressed against the
face edge. Place a ruler against the
trisquare and mark the distance required.
Use the tri square to square the line around
the workpiece. Do this for all the dimensions
of the joint.

Step 4
Use a marking knife scribe the lines across
the grain. This will reduce the chance of
splintering and breakout as the fibres will be
pre cut. Only scribe the lines across the
grain.

Step 5
Then it's time to cut this piece out
