SW PORTOFLOIO: REFLECTION OF LEARNING PRODUCT 3

This reflection is an analysis of my first big research paper. This paper was very
challenging for me. I am not very good at research but I think I did a decent job on this paper. I
specifically like the topic I chose to write on because it is a major social problem in this country
and it has influenced me to want to possibly be a social worker that works at a juvenile detention
center. I also really liked the socio-cognitive intervention technique that I describe in this paper.
It was used to teach kids who were determined to be at-risk better ways to handle things that can
potentially make them behave in a violent way. I just think juveniles who have messed up in the
past, deserve another chance at life. Violence amongst teens is a major problem. This problem
has caused a lot of violence behavior among their peers including murder. I think the teens who
commit those type of offenses and will be eventually be part of society again need someone that
will provide the resources they need and be a mentor to them. As a social worker I want them to
be able to live a decent life, regardless of the mistakes they made in the past. A lot of teens do not
value life because they feel like no one cares. I want to be the person to show them that someone
does care and that they still have a chance to live a productive life.
As previously stated, this paper was one of the most challenging papers I wrote in the
BSW program. It prepared me for the future research papers that I may have to write. It is hard
for me to illustrate certain thoughts that I have in my head in written form. This first research
paper was a great learning experience for me. I learn what to do and what not to do. I also
learned what some professors expect out of a research paper. This research paper has taught me
that I must pay attention to my grammatical errors and pay attention to my citations making sure
they are done correctly.
All in all, this is was my first big research paper. I learned a lot from this paper. I
especially learned what improvements I needed to make in order to do a good job on the paper.
