FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, March 28, 2016 REAL ESTATE TAX DEADLINE NEARS Douglas County Treasurer John W. Ewing, Jr., is reminding taxpayers that they have through and including Thursday, March 31, 2016 to pay the first half of their 2015 Real Estate taxes in order to avoid a delinquent penalty. By statute, first-half taxes become delinquent April 1st each year. The five Treasurers Offices will be open an extra half-hour (until 4:30 PM), Thursday, March 31, 2016 to accommodate taxpayers wishing to pay in person. Customers may utilize drop boxes in the facilities, rather than waiting in line. Please remember that the Downtown Office is closed to walkin customer traffic, but is equipped with a drop box in the lobby of the City-County Building. Taxpayers are encouraged to use the U.S. Mail or online payments through the Treasurers website, www.dctreasurer.org, as alternatives to paying in person. The U.S. Mail postmark date or the date of the transaction online will be used to determine proof of payment. Online confirmation is immediate. Due to the heavy volume of transactions just before the deadline, payments may not appear on the website for several days after the deadline. Receipts are no longer mailed. A cancelled check or online receipt serves as a receipt of payment. Taxpayers having any questions regarding Real Estate payments may call 402-444-7103, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Property tax information is available through the Treasurers website, as well. The Treasurers Customer Service Center locations are as follows:
