This study was conducted in five zones of the province of Leoncio Prado, Hunuco regin, to 660
m.s.n.m., with a temperature of 19.2 C to 24.3 C, annual average rainfall of 3,300 mm and
average relative humidity of 87.0%. The environment bijao populations in were evaluated in
Tahuantinsuyo, Chunatahua, Chilcamayo, La Divisoria and Supte Alto, located at altitudes of
1,197, 1,242, 1,249, 1,594, 1,120 m.s.n.m. and slopes of 27.00, 30.00, 27.00, 15.00 and 30.00%
respectively; The main research objective was "Evaluate soil and climate characteristics of
natural populations of bijao (Calathea lateralis (Ruiz & Pav. Lindl.) In five zones of the province of
Leoncio Prado". bijao to traders were identified, visits are coordinated and registered UTM
coordinates, to register independent and dependent variables bijao populations.
The results of the physical and chemical analysis of the soil that sustains bijao plants evaluated in
five zones, determine loam texture soils with pH from 4.99 to 6.97 with average of pH 6.28; with
1.54 to 2.30% organic matter (M.O) and nitrogen (Total-N) ranging from 0.07 to 0.10% (N), the
amount of phosphorus available in a range of 3.92 to 9.46 ppm; with available potassium 715.53
to 177.56 range kg/ha K 2O, the zones evaluated are in the altitudinal gradient from 1,120 to 1,594
m.s.n.m., It reflects brightness of 221.93 to 516.70 lx, with temperature range 18.50 to 26.08 C
and humidity of 84 to 96.6%. Biometrics bijao plants were recorded in 25.00 m 2, found 17-22 bijao
mattes; the number of plants per mat is in a range of 7 to 12 with an average of 10 plants; and the
number of tillers for each plant is in a range of 2 to 3, probable average of 3 tillers. The height of
mattes bijao of 121.6 to 308.4 cm on average of 203.96 cm; the width and length bijao leaf is in a
range of 20.95 to 39.15 cm and 75.50 to 38.98 cm respectively.
