I. TOPIC: Division Day 4, intro to algorithm
II. OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:
a. After instruction on division with remainders, TSWBAT complete division
problems using base 10 blocks or images to 85% accuracy.
b. MO4.A-T.2.1.3 Divide up to four digit dividends by one-digit divisors with
answers written as whole-number quotients and remainders.
III. TEACHING PROCEDURES:
1) Anticipatory Set (10 minutes)
a. Have the students get their homework out to check.
b. Go over multiplication facts page 9
c. Go over any problem questions on the homework
i. Have the students look over their homework with a neighbor and
circle the one they most had issue with.
ii. Go over the most commonly circled problems
2) Development (25 minutes)
a. Have the students review with a problem that covers remainders and
regrouping.
i. 17/5
ii. Using scratch paper
iii. Go over together after students are given time to complete it
b. Discuss with the students how we have these great tools of base 10
blocks, but when we are at the grocery store, we wont have blocks to
help us divide.
c. Have the students move to sit in front of the board.
d. Have a student come forward to navigate the virtual manipulatives
while I walk through the corresponding algorithm on chart paper (the
proof or check of the manipulative)
i. 42/3
ii. 26/4
3) Guided and Independent Practice/Assessment (20 minutes)
a. Open books to page 355
b. Complete the first two problems together as a class
i. Use the virtual manipulatives to continue the connection
between the two processes.
c. Have the students work through #s 6-11
i. Circulate
ii. Go over problems that the students struggle with
4) Closure (5 minutes)

V. ADAPTATIONS/PLAN MODIFICATIONS:
a. Extra time: Work on word problems on page 356
b. Not enough time: Complete less examples
c. Struggling Learners: Have the base 10 blocks available for students who
need the visual
VI.EVALUATION:
1) Formative: Questioning, student responses, circulation
2) Summative: Quiz and Final Unit/Chapter 6 Test

REFLECTION:
1) Was the objective met?

2) What went well in this lesson? What did not?

3) What changes could I make to this lesson to improve it for the future?
