Relationship Between Demographic and Environment/Natural

Resource Variables

Demographic factors determine that nature and intensity of socio-economic

activities in a rural environment.
These socio-economic activities directly affect the environment and the natural
resources in many ways and varying degrees.
The state of the environmental and natural resources has resultant impacts on
demographic factors.
Population dimensions determine the level of demand for goods.
The level of demand dictates the pattern of utilization and level of consumption which,
in turn, affect the natural resource supply and environmental quality.
Replenishment of renewable resource supply depends on:
(a) The rate of regeneration of resources which is dependent on environmental quality
(b) The conservation of rehabilitation efforts of the population which are enhanced by
government support and other forms of interventions (policies, regulations,
incentives, programs, and projects)
()The state of natural resource supply influences natural resource demand and has a
direct impact on population, particularly spatial distribution.
()Environmental quality status similarly has a direct impact on demographic variables.
