The 4 Days of Horror

Ramesh was a poor farmer that worked under the lordship of landlord Jethlal. He
was an innocent person, believed in God and worked hard to earn his living. He lived
in a kachha house built up of mud, husk and temporary sheets of aluminum sheet.
Days were hard. The scorching summer heat was on rise this
season. Crop failure was certain but still all the farmers and workers tried their best
to cultivate as much land as possible.
Time flew and the entire crops got perished in the heat of the sun.
Food reserves were scares and production was nil. Taxes were to be paid to Jethlal in
such terrible condition, which shall make the situation worse. Thus all the farmers
gathered together under a neem tree and decided to persuade Jethlal to skip the
collection of taxes this season. But
Jethlal said- Have you all gone crazy! What is the guarantee that there will be a
good shower this monsoon?
Farmer Suresh- Believe us your lord. We shall strive to death if we pay taxes in such
a terrible condition.
Jethlal- And what about my hunger. Am I having gods boon for being immortal. Go
you lazy touts and do some works.
The farmers ran all around the village and got enough earning to
payback the taxes to Jethlal. But still none could earn enough to have a proper meal
twice a day.
Month of October was approaching and the winter months
bought destructive tsunamis and rain-shower at the coast of Orissa. Ramesh as well
all others were aware about the calamities, but all were calm with their faith in God.
In the communal meeting of farmers, all the workers started to express
their viewsFarmer Mulish- Friends, what will happen if the shower is inappropriate enough to
cultivate the jute?
We shall again we debt-ridden which I cant bear.
Farmer Suresh- Yes brother, me myself am very troubled by the thought.
Elder Farmer Mites Dont worry my son, this summer had reminded me about an
incident of my childhood. That year, a very good shower that happened after the
scorching summer heat.
Ramesh- Hope it happens again God.
Time flew and unequal shower of rain and strong winds bought hope to
the village. Everyone swiftly cultivated their land and got good produce. Everyone
thought of a very good earning through the rain. When one day everything
changed-

Ramesh was routinely performing his morning prayer when he saw the cloud
pattern in the sky.
He said- Oh my god! How still and calm are the cloud and so is the wind. It might be
a pre-rain shower condition. Hope a good one happens.
But condition worsened. Humidity and warm winds surrounded the
atmosphere. Animals and birds began to run away as if in panic. An urgent meeting
of farmers was calledElder Farmer Mites Oh my god, what a terrible condition is occurring. It will ruin all
the harvest.
Farmer Akhil- Yes, its better to take precautionary steps than to cry over the
damage after.
Farmer Suresh (tensed) - But just look at the animals, they all have driven crazy.
Ramesh- Leave all that and run to the go-downs.
Everyone ran and started to deposit their harvest in the go-down. Small boys
and girls were locked in their house and cattle were safely tied in their shelter.
Situation grew unfavorable and started to daunt the thinking of everyone.
Ramesh thought- Such a condition develops only when a catastrophe occurs. Oh my
lord, please forgive us for all the sins I have done and restore your blessing towards
the village.
Night-time occurred and slight shower of rain started to happen. All were
relieved and started to prepare their bed.
Ramesh- Thank God! It was just a light shower of rain. Now its good to go to sleep.
Comfortably, he prepared his bed, said his prayer and went to sleep.

KABOOM!!
.
.
A loud sound broke his dreams and he rushed to the window. A Lightning bolt
had set Suresh house on fire.
Ramesh and all others rushed to help Suresh and soon found that the fire had
extinguished and the rain shower had caught much momentum.
Ramesh- Suresh are you all right.
Farmer Suresh- Oh yes Ramesh, the lightning had stuck to the nearby tree and had
spread fire.
KABOOM!!
Elder Farmer Mites (tensed) - Oh my god, son now its not safe to stay in these
kachha house. Lets rush to the puccka house of our landlord.
Farmer Akhil- Yes, lets find some accommodation in our masters house in order to
stay alive.

Panicked by the rain, everyone ran to Jethlals house and started to

demand for shelter.
Elder Farmer Mites- Dear sir, as you can see..
Jethlal- See What? Rain? Go and demand shelter somewhere else.
