Hi Gary,
Your meeting notes accurately convey what I heard in the meeting as well. DPS would like to be out of
the 911 call-taking business. I know you did ask for a formal letter and that would have to come from
the Commissioner. I also know that any such endeavor would take time to plan and while not meant as a
date certain, for discussion sake (only) we tossed out a date of July 1, 2017. Im sure both DPS and E911
will need to discuss this further and we are ready to do so.
Good to see you the other day.
Joe
agreement that, if you seriously want to get out of the E-911 Call Taking business we (he and I) need to
start having conversations with selected and appropriate key individuals regarding how we (the 911
Board) will fill the void created by DPS's departure, who and where we might host any new or expanded
PSAPs and look at potentially redeploying E-911 equipment.
In order to be perfectly clear I want to summarize our meeting. At yesterday's meeting (03-21-16 ), after
much back and forth conversation you told me that you intend to stop operating any DPS PSAPs and
asked how much notice the E-911 Board would need to effect the necessary changes. I explained that I
would need that in writing before bringing it to the full Board of Directors, but that we would need at least
a year. That it would be impossible to do with any shorter notice. During the wrap up of our meeting you
told me that a letter would be forthcoming. If any portion of this summary is incorrect please feel free to
clarify. Before Roger or I move forward I want to make sure that this summary accurately represents our
conversation and your intentions.
Respectfully,
