Wellcome to the FSHELI.CH Sud Aviation Alouette II fr FS2004

Authors foreword
Hello, my name is Peter Salzgeber. My goal was not only to build a realistic helicopter for Microsoft Flight simulator, but
also a helicopter that allows for flight-action in typical missions for this aircraft. With the Sud Aviation SA315B Lama I have
produced an Add-On for Microsoft Flight-Simulator, to do that. Now I will present an other helicopter classic to you: the
S.N.C.A.S.E. SE3130 Alouette II, the first turbine-powered helicopter on the
world! This aircraft is the grandma of the Lama.
Thanks to you to the help of some helicopter companies, Pilots und Engineers
that gave me most useful hints about the
Helicopter, I finally was able to build this Alouette II, which works as realistic as
possible within the given limits of Microsoft
Flight-simulator, which unfortunately makes a 100% realistic rendition of a
helicopter impossible at the present stage.
However, I am pretty sure you still will like the result if you read this manual
first!

Peter Salzgeber, FSHeli.ch

The history from the S.N.C.A.S.E. SE3130 just to the SA318C Alouette II ASTAZOU
The S.N.C.A.S.E.* SE3130 Alouette II is the first turbine-powered helicopter on the world. The first flight was at March 12
1955 in Buc (F), commanded by works-pilot Jean Boulet, responsible for different world records: the altitude-world-record
from June 6 1955 of 8209 Meters with the SE3130 s/n 002 and so the altitude-world-record of 10984 Meters at June 13
1958. This record was be flown with the prototype s/n. 002 of the S.N.C.A.S.E. SE3150 Alouette II, an Alouette II with the
dynamic components of the Alouette III (main-rotor, tail-rotor, engine and gearbox). Out of this prototype is born the SA
315B Lama. With this aircraft, Jean Boulet gets the today valid (!) altitude-world-record of 12442 Meters at June 12 1972.
From the type SE3130 / SA313B, powered with a Turbomeca Artouste IIC turbine, totally 923 pieces are leaving the
production belts. From the type SA 318C, powered with the more powerfully but economic Turbomeca Astazou II engine,
starting in 1961, 382 pieces was produced. The production stops in 1975. Today its not possible to say, how many aircraft
of which type is remaining in operation. Many Alouette II are converted into SA 315B Lama and are still working around
the whole world.
* S.N.C.A.S.E.= Abbreviation for: Socit Nationale de Constructions Aronautiques du Sud Est, this company is since
1957 part of Sud Aviation, which is renamed 1970 to Aerospatiale and today part of Eurocopter. So the different typenames are declared: SE=Sud Est, SA=Sud Aviation, AS=Aerospatiale and EC=Eurocopter.
Below you will fin a table with all 32 aircraft of this package, also the prototypes s/n 001 of the SNCASE SE3130 and both,
-the s/n 001 and the s/n 002- of the SNCASE SE3150. At the bottom you will find the data-sheet from the Alouette II and
for comparison the specs of the Lama.
At the end of this document, I have placed many links to very good websites containing history, photos etc. of the Alouette
II.
If you are familiar with my Aerospatiale Lama V4.0, you will be also familiar with the Alouette II.
But please: READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY!
And now: HAPPY LANDINGS!
Peter Salzgeber, FSHELI.ch, Member of Swiss Helicopter Design Group

Before we start
the Installation
Close all other applications before starting the installation. Take care, that your hard disc is not too fragmented, as
this can cause problems during installation. In Windows 98/ME/ or Windows NT4.0/2000 or Windows XP, the
LAMA- setup will start automatically, as long as you have not disabled the auto run-function of Windows. When
using Windows XP please make sure, that you are registered as Administrator. After installation has started,
please follow the instructions on the screen. All files needed will then be installed to the appropriate directories.

The FSHeli.ch Alouette II Configurator

The FSHeli.ch Alouette II configurator will open after the installer is
running. You can also open the FSHeli.ch Alouette II Configurator
using the Short-cut on the desktop, to change the configurations
every time. Load first an other aircraft or close Microsoft Flight
Simulator FS2004
Suggested settings: if you are familiar with using advanced
helicopters in Microsoft Flight Simulator FS2004, choose the
Advanced-setting. If you use the first time an advanced helicopters
in Microsoft Flight Simulator FS2004, choose the Beginnersetting. This setting corresponds to the default Bell Jet Ranger. More
Suggested settings in the Manual.

Before we fly
suggested settings

To give your Alouette II the most real flight dynamics and make it
function optimal, we recommend the following settings:
The Realism setting in the Menu Aircraftset the settings
almost all the way down between low and middle.
In the Menu Options Display Aircraft, set the reflections on,
so the glass cockpit will glow and make it look more realistic.
Activate shadows and landing lights also!
The sensitivity on all axes should be put on the maximum:
really sensitive, and putt null zones on 0.
With Joysticks like the Microsoft ForceFeedback2in the menu
calibrateset the ways short. The movement on
the Stick need to be really small, this is a helicopter, not
a rowing boat. J

Tip: use FSUIPC 3.6 or above by Peter Dowson, to configure your Joystick and pedal settings. Available here:
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

create your own FS9.cfg for the Alouette II

As the reality-settings differ extreme from the settings usually used with other FS-aircraft, You may want to create a special
FS9.cfg for the Alouette II, to be able to choose between normal settings and settings for your new helicopter. So let
s start to
create this FS9.cfg. You will usually find the orignial FS9.cfg at
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\"User"\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\FS9
Where Userstands fort he username (your name). Now copy the existing FS9.cfg to a safe place. Then start the Flight
Simulator and set the configurations as shown above.
Close the Flight Simulator again. Now rename the
FS9.cfg (the file includes now the new settings) to
FS9AlouetteII.cfg. Now copy the FS9.cfg, you
saved
before, to its old place. Now you have two cfg-Files;
one for normal flying (FS9.cfg) and one fort the
Alouette II (FS9alouetteII.cfg).
As next step you copy the FS 2004 Short-Cut on
your Desktop and rename the copy to FS2004
AlouetteII. Click with the right mousebutton
on this new shortcut and change the path of
the fs9.cfg as shown in the picture left. Only
change the line Ziel:(path) to
"C:\Programme\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator
9\FS9.EXE"_/CFG:fs9alouetteII
Add the text marked green after adding a space.
Leave or Add the marked blue. And that
s all
11

Here we go
first stepps in the cockpit

By now you should be sitting in the Lama cockpit. We suggest

to use the Virtual Cockpit. It gives a better overview and allows
for easier handling. (Also no throttle panel is available in the
2D-Cockpit) Following should be done:
For a perfect view put the zoomon 51-55%
Fuelling and Transport goods of choice should be
adjusted with weight for better realism.
Look at the picture next to this text. It highlights click
spot where if clicked sub panels will appear.

...and what else you need to know.

The Rotor brake can be activated by pulling the red

lever when the Engine is in Idle and the Main Rotor
turns below 175 rpm. (Pull the throttleall the way
back or ctrl+F1). The warning park brake activated
will be seen. (ADVANCED only)
To deploy the landing-light, use the tail-hook-command or click on the switch on the pitch-lever (s. next page

Pas-General: the angle of attackof the main rotor blades

The indication of the attack-angle of
the main blades is very important on
the Alouette II. The exceeding of the
red line limit is dangerous, because the
rotor rpm will be to low and the result is
a rotor-stall. The aircraft will loose very
fast altitude. On low altitude it
s not
time to save the power. To raise the
rotor rpm, put down the pitch lever and
wait until the limit warning light goes
out. Now pull the pitch-lever slowly to
pull out the helicopter. (ADVANCED
only)

Into the limits

Power limit exceed,

rotor rpm to low

The helicopter drop down fast. To rise

rotor rpm, put down the pitch and wait
until the Limit-Warning light goes out.
Pull now slowly the pitch lever to keep
the helicopter in the air.
