Government System of
Switzerland
Background:
Switzerland was known for being a
republican tradition and has a
democratic constitution that has
been in effect as of 1847. The
constitution has been revised
multiple times since then, which is
now known as the federal
constitution. Switzerland is made
up of 26 cantons. The government,
parliament and courts of
Switzerland are systematized on
different levels.
Switzerland is structured on three
levels:

Federal
Cantonal
Communal

The constitution of Switzerland is

broken up into three levels due to
the order of each area. Each area
has multiple aspects as to how
effects should take into play. The
federal council members take the
federal government of Switzerland
into action. Each member has the
opportunity to become the head of
the democratic republic.
