Hypomania: lasts at least 4 consecutive days. Major depressive disorder: lasts 612 months. Episodes for 2 or more weeks. Cyclothymia: lasts at least 2 years. Dysthymia: lasts at least 2 years. Maternal blues: starting 23 days after delivery. Usually resolves within 10 days. Postpartum mood disturbances: Onset within 4 weeks of delivery.
Brief psychotic disorder: lasts < 1 month, usually stress related.
Panic disorder: Episode should be followed by 1 month of concern of
additional attacks. Specific phobia: lasts > 6 months Generalized anxiety disorder: lasts > 6 months. Acute stress disorder: lasts between 3 days and 1 month. PTSD: lasts > 1 month. Adjustment disorder: Symptoms usually occurs within 3 months of the stressor, lasts < 6 months (> 6 months in presence of chronic stressor). Bulimia nervosa: at least 3 months. Somatic symptom disorder: lasts > 6 months. Separation anxiety disorder: Common onset at 79 years. Tourette syndrome: Onset < age 18. Tics that persist for > 1 year. ADHD: Symptoms must be present for > 6 months.
