and Society

Second/additional language education is an


important area of scholarship and
practice. This Master of Education
Concentration in Second Language
Acquisition, Culture and Society
(SLACS), with a focus on Second
Language Acquisition and Instruction,
advances the development of scholarly
knowledge and pedagogical skills that
will enhance teaching practices in
second
or
additional
language
acquisition. It also promotes a deeper
understanding for language learners in
linguistically and culturally diverse
Canada as well as in the globalized and
interdependent world

It includes a variety of learning experiences


that address the interlocking nature of
special education and language acquisition
in K-12 settings
It provides students, who are in the
international cohort, with unique internship
opportunities and with experience in
different forms of second language
assessment
It addresses French as a second or additional
language and English as a global language
In addition to issues of multilingualism and
multiculturalism, it also addresses issues of
multiliteracies
